I did not offer a commentary on the entire season, or who has been producing for the Flyers this seasons. My comments were on what happened in last nights game. The bottom 6 for the most part last night held their own. It was the Flyers top players who got drastically outplayed at ES last night, and why the Flyers lost the game. That and the PK giving up two PP goals.

Now if we want to look at a wider scale view, everyone agrees that the Flyers need to upgrade their forward depth. The Pens are a team that is vulnerable with their bottom two lines. The Flyers unfortunately don't have the player to take advantage of that weakness, because they have the same weakness.

They held there own? Or is it because its easy to hold your own on ES when 6 points in 44 games is all that's expected of you?

Wrong. These were by far the worst possession forwards last night.

Gagner and Read played against Malkin as much as these guys, but had better possession numbers.

Due to the absence of Couturier, the Flyers had to use the Bellemare line against Malkin. Look at the shot differentials for Bellemare when not facing Malkin?
The Laughton line did fine last night in limited ice time.

There's a lot more to the game than just points. As an example, if Couturier had played last night, there is a good chance he could've had a significant effect on the outcome, even if he didn't register a point.

I think the most startling thing that jumped out to me is the lack of tenacity in the 2nd. Pens weren't going to roll over, but 4 unanswered goals to me is unacceptable. You would think being up 2 to a rival they would want to put em away.

Also this team is slow with a capital S.

Felt bad for Mason. The Kessel PP goal can't happen. Although both sides didn't offer up a manual on penalty killing.

It's not just points, its forecheck, shots, pressure, production
Couturier is expected to produce, (by fans, and management), even while roping guys like Malkin, and he does just that.
What's easier?
Being a forward who's expected to score, yet not get scored against at ES?
Or
Being a role playing forward who's not expected to score, but not get scored against at ES?
You just described the work of the top 2 lines vs the bottom 2 lines last night.

According to you there's no difference.

They used Gagner and Read against Malkin just as much as the Bellemare line, and Gagner and Read did much better.

ES TOI and CF-CA vs Malkin:
Read 5:42, 5-8
White 5:07, 2-13
VdV 4:51, 1-11
PEB 4:41, 1-12
Gagner 4:59, 5-5

I know you're just trolling but obviously he wasn't brought to LA to put up points. If you listen to the media around that team and fans they are very happy with Luke's game thus far. He has apparently stabilized their bottom D pairing. Happy for him and Vinny. The best to them both
