I have to imagine there is a trade in the works, Cole for a 3rd or 4th rounder? Pouliot has to play at some point right? They arent going to totally botch this thing the way they did Sprong? - Weisenheimer
I don't trust the Pens at all when it comes to young players coming up. Its like they do the opposite of what every other NHL team does. Who would be the 7/8th dman then? |

I would assume they are waiting until Warsofsky is healthy enough to be that 7th guy until they do anything. But like you said, young players and this organization, who knows? Right now, Pouliot is that 7th guy, but what is the point? Cole has shown what he can do, not much! |

Ya know, I fully understand that cost of Daley, being 4 mil+ counting Scuds' buyout, is VERY overpriced... that said... lets say we bought out Scuderi to start this season... what "assets" would aquiring Daley from Chicago have cost us?
I say not spending more of our draft picks/prospects is an extra win on this deal, and the Perron-Hagglin one. - Guile
Scuderi was costing us games. Daley is actually contributing to wins for an extra mil. That's the way I choose to look at it.
Now for Cole.... Would love to send his incompetent ass out of town for a pick.

If Chicago buys out Scuds, your saying the Pens are off the hook for some/all the retained salary from the trade? - Weisenheimer
If Chicago buys him out it reduces the retained salary on Scuderi down to almost nothing for two years. Doesn't make a much sense for Chicago to buy him out but they are saving some money in the short term if they do. |

That would be moreso on the ownership side saving money... cause we'd pay the buyout out, out of pocket I believe.
I could have that wrong, but I think the Pens are on the hook money wise for AHL send downs and buyouts, but not cap hit. |

Kills 2 birds with 1 stone: Allocates a LD spot for Pouliot and adds payroll flexibility for the deadline as well as forward years. |

Scuderi had 3:30 TOI tonight. Daley scored his 4th goal as a Pen. - jfkst1
If you want a better laugh, Scuderi's mins were at forward playing the wing. Garbutt had just been traded to ANA and Sekac hadn't arrived. Panik overslept and was scratched. Perfect storm of suck.

Someone texted me asking about that but I didn't watch any of the game.
Why isn't Scuderi just sent down to the AHL? He's a complete liability. Anyone else is better than him. |

Straight up for Garbutt. Sekac is 23 and an RFA after this year, so they get younger and smarter. Garbutt ufa in '17, $$ within 25K.

Not a bad trade. I like both players but give an edge to Sekac. |

He and Roszival alternate at 6D with TVR anchoring the pairing. He doesn't play much, maybe 10 mins a game max but keeps Rozi from being overused. He looks like Ray Bourque compared to the crap they trotted out third pair the last couple of rounds of the playoffs last year.

What I can't understand is how they deemed Daley a worse player than Scuderi? I understand the cap dump theory, but Scuderi continues to be with the big club. Meanwhile Daley has been an immense improvement for us. Baffling. |

Trevor Daley is amazing. We got him for Rob Scuderi??
Hagelin is a perfect 3rd wheel to the 2nd line. We got him for David Perron??
Oh wait...sorry, I meant to say fire Rutherford. |

some guys just dont do it for some teams.
look at perron. he isnt a bad nhl player. hes a decent 2nd line winger. but on this team, centered by 2 great guys, he just could not do ANYTHING.
goes to anaheim, scores in his first game.
not saying theres a science to it. who knows. but daley has been helping. what a win tonight. |

if hags had hands it would be unstoppable. then again, if he had hands he would be like a 6.5 million dollar player for a whole 'nother team.
i still like what he brings. his speed with kessel can create opportunities. hell never finish a high percentage, but the odd one or so has to go in for him. and overall, more speed in the lineup is usually always a good thing. |

Q never trusted Daley (he was not good in his own end)- he never played PK and never got off the third pairing. Offensively he was really inefficient, passing and shooting. Even when Keith was out for a month Q played rookies from the A 1st and 2d pair. For whatever reason, he was a poor fit here.
Scuderi's retained cap made the way for Gustafsson to come back from the AHL. He's been exceptional since his recall paired with Seabrook.
Guess the trade helped both teams, as it should be.

Can't look at it that way. We paid Rob Scuderi nearly $4M. Paying $1M for him to go away is a win.
If Daley plays like this, $4M would be a fair contract. |

Wonder if there is any team that would be willing to trade a physical 3rd line left wing for Cole...
unless Kunitz is out for a while...in which case, no doubt in my mind JR will go balls to the wall for Drouin. |

Scuderi isn't an NHL player so almost any call up is better than him.
Daley is benefitting enormously from Sullivan's system. The Pens don't even look like the same team they were under Johnston and the transformation has been immediate. Much faster puck movement. They can actually come from behind and win some games. |

When we give away draft picks and assets like candy canes, I LOVE to look at it that way.
General question to the board... what would you consider a pick in each round worth, money wise? 3-5 mil for a 1st, 1-2 for a 2nd? Or can we not put a price on them that simply? |
