Is this the first you've heard of Allan Walsh?
- golfingsince

Then he should be fired if that's the case and if Drouin won't, then I got to believe he condones it or gave permission after the fact. Either way, it doesn't look good on him.

A full scale dump and restock...would that not include dumping a poopty vet d man that's way over paid and way under performing ?
- Bullfrog77

Only if you ignore all available statistical information about that player and focus on mistakes instead of good plays does 5.5 not look like a bargain. He's in his 20's, so is Tanev. D is the hardest position to play/learn at this level IMO, kids can't just come in and play very often. You don't go of guys that can help your team in the 3 years from now we are trying to be competitive in. Sedins/hammer/Miller/Vrbata are much older, none of them are poopty and should be trade priorities over younger players.

Come on man. I don't know the first thing about Druin, wether he's a standup individual or a total POS or anything in between. What I do know is that he's a teenager desperate to play in the NHL. It's pretty easy for an agent to manipulate that. Is he guilt free? No, probably not, but not many teenagers are.

There all desperate to play in the NHL. Most shut-up and do what they are told and earn their way in.

Yeah Cody went thru 3 agents. Drouin has plenty of time to really wreak his career.

That would have worked last year when the rules hadn't changed and the top 5 in the draft were all either NHL-ready/elite/close to it. Now even if you do hit 30th in the league, you may still end up drafting 4th overall if you get unlucky. Beyond Matthews and maybe the two Swedes none of the rest of the top 10 look NHL ready or show elite talent levels. Next year at this point is too early to tell but it doesn't look good.
- DariusKnight

If you lose the lotto from the bottom spot you're still picking 4th. Also to lose all three lotto's at 20% or over probability is pretty unlikely. I like the changes to the lotto, but you're still getting a top-5 if you finish at the bottom. You're assesment of this year's crop of talent is a shade greyer than the professional scouts who have assessed them.

Who cares? Do you remember Eli Manning for winning 2 SuperBowls or for saying he wouldn't play with the Chargers?

Why are the Lightning so innocent in all of this?

When COHO couldn't crack the Canucks it was AV that was the monster.

Not all have an agent whispering in their ear that it's possible. Let's not pretend that every prospect is created equal. The majority, if they pulled this, wouldn't get a sniff at the the NHL, but someone will give Druin a shot.

No, but you're supposed to be a professional, you are getting paid to play. There are 1000 players waiting for you to fail and take your spot. If you're being manipulated by your agent then you should be firing him and taking him to the bar association to be disbarred. Like I keep saying, you can't tell me that he didn't know what his agent was going to do or that his agent did it behind his back against his wishes. The fact that he's still Drouin's agent despite obviously bad advice that's now essentially killed his career for the moment tells me that either he condones what was done in his name or else is too full of himself and wrapped up in his own little world to care.

The standard we expect NHL prospects to live up to is ridiculous. They're like the fcking Royal family.

I don't care what the stats say...I've seen most the games he's played since he came into the league. He peaked it wasn't great and he's declined for 4 years....he's bad defensively and I would not want him imparting that poop play on the younger d core. Move him for a young d and a 1st . Call it a win. Either way he is diminishing returns and needs to go

Even less are top-5 picks. No-one is condoning what's going on. Drouin clearly has messed up here. But he's 20, got 90 games NHL exp and looked pretty good in many of those games IMO. Is he a guaranteed first liner? No. Does he still have that potential, yeah for sure in fact he has been able to display it at this level and needs to grow a bit to flourish.

Why is Drouin the victim here? His stats dictated that he needed time in the minors to gain confidence/get his conditioning back which is well within the team's rights. He decided to sit because his agent gave him bad advice (which he took) and the team rightfully indefinitely suspended him.

That's it exactly.

I have to wonder how entitled some of the folks that post here acted when they were 20. Yet, this 20 year old is supposed to act professional when he has a veteran agent telling him the world is his.

I congratulate you on watching a player on your team and disliking him. Unfortunately for you, fortunately for me and the Canucks IMO, Edler is a bonified top 4 to our GM and coach. I reckon most Gm's think that. If we got a good d prospect and a 1st, I'd jump on that though. No one should be untouchable and that is a lot in today's market.

So's BoHo, JV, McCann, Hutton (although he's older mind you) and yet you don't see them pouting about playing time or being scratched. Being a kid is no excuse, look at the way JV handled being destroyed by the media and public over the WJHC... why does Drouin get himself a pass being roughly the same age?

He has the tremendous possession stats on a really good team, better than most. His point totals are fine given him minutes, especially for a young player. He lost his job to injury mostly, and the team has been less than honest with him I think. All parties are at fault here, lets no kid ourselves. However, this isn't just on Drouin.

Because Drouin has outproduced all of them yet JM gets first line minutes, Bo gets second line minutes, Hutton gets top 4 minutes.........and Drouin is in the minors?

Just a guess.

When I was 20, I had a full-time job, took care of my grandmother who had cancer and couldn't take care of herself and that's despite the fact that I had just spent 2 years recovering from a knee injury in Junior A that ended any hope of making the pros. Am I unique? Maybe, but I don't see Connor McDavid, or Jack Eichel, or Nathan McKinnon or Sam Reinhart or plenty of others who are the same age who pull that kind of poop.

I guess Drouin was picked 3rd and Virtanen was only picked 6th, so Drouin earned the right to a tantrum.

I would have. Until he pulled the no show. I wouldn't have him on my team now.
