I think if we got Lehner for a 2016 second, people would be less pissed

Murray's stamp on this team will be how Kane, Lehner, and Fasching produce IMO

- homiedclown

The thing is. What Murray paid for him, Lehner needs to be a consistent top 10 goalie in this league. He needs to be Corey Schneider like. Anything other than that and that trade was a bust from his end.

I wouldn't hold my breath, if Lehner is in the net.
We will get destroyed with this guy in the net.

- Sabresfan88

Wow, you must be an intense fan of Ottawa, AHL and International play to have this solid evidence against Lehner, or a great crystal ball.
Quick, tell me when the stock market will rebound so I can pour all my money in the market...Oh ya, and when the next down market is coming so I can convert to Bonds.

Tough to judge it 1/2 way through the season with only 1-1/2 games played. We all never thought the situation would be like this. I will look more into it after he plays 10 games. We should know what we have by then I hope.

Correct on part 1

Incorrect on Part 2; ROR, McGinn, The Tank for Eichel, Eichel himself, Skunk, Bogo, ...and some of the prospects coming up...plus 2016 1sts and 2nds. Collectively, THAT will be the GMTM stamp on this team.
If your a pessimist, then I guess you can think that Kane, Lehner and Fashing will be it...btw, disagree on the Fashing part...as per the long discussion yesterday.

Why? Schneider was traded for a top 10 pick. Lehner was traded for bottom 10 pick. That's a huge swing.

Good post. However, if dinner is on the table then why aren't we eating? That's the problem, we took all the food out of the cupboards to rush dinner, and it doesn't taste too good. Is it premature, probably yes, but so far this is not gourmet.

As far as complaints, isn't that what the site is all about?

- SabresPanacea

Was a slightly incorrect metaphor...try this.
Dinner is on the stove and in the oven, taste tests reveal lots of promise...needs a bit more seasoning and a little more time to finish cooking. May even need to through out one of the dishes...but we have some good stuff to eat in another hour. In fact, the kids coming home from Tops might have some Lobster Tails that were on sale.really cheep...just need to wait a bit longer to find out.

Then, does Colin White need to be consistently in the top 35 scorers if you use that logic? Anything less and he's a failure?

From that Kris Baker article:

Linus Ullmark stopped 21 of 25 shots as Rochester was defeated by Binghamton 4-0. The loss lowers Ullmark to 1-3 with a 3.05 GAA and .916 save% in four AHL starts this season.

Are you going to be ok with Lehner being a 15-20 best goalie in the NHL?
AKA CHad Johnson this year.

How about Sabres trade Ennis and Weber to The Avs to get Big Z back...hell, I'll even through in a 2nd.

It's been what, 2-3 years since we were .500? It's been almost a year since we had a 3 game win streak I believe. It'd be hard to pull off but if they keep playing like they have, especially early in games, then there's a chance.

I'd love to have Z but I trust 89 when he said that there were some serious personal issues around him that made them want to move him.

i honestly don't care where he is ranked if the team is winning.. However if your goalie is in that range you most likely are not in the top of the league.. does that answer your question.

I miss that dude (89) ... Was opinionated some of which I disagreed with...like everyone, but he had some good insights. We lost a lot of that on here over the past year or so, bummer.

The goaltending hasn't been an issue this year. Could it be better? Sure. But it's not exactly killing us out there, so it's not something I'm stressing about.

I have the same thought. I think a lot of the goalies success is the team in front of him. Crawford is a prime example...I have never been impressed by him and him alone...has some good moments to be sure, but always felt the team in front of him was the reason for his record and stats. I wouldn't rank him in the top 10, but maybe that is just me.

I don't wanna speak for him...
But I think he was saying the guys who look 50/50 will be the determine factor

ROR, Eichel & Reinhart are already looking like a lock to be successful core players for us

After last nights game, I want to pursue Boedker in FA

We need someone with speed like that.

- sbroads24

How much is he going to cost and for how long?

I only ask because it feels like any deal given out to any UFA is tied to what can be done with Moulson, and to a lesse extent, Gorges.

it depends on if you go by stats or what the goalies ability actually is.. goaltending has become largely a team thing over the past 10 years. crawford is a good example, i would put him in that 10 -20 range, probably closer to 10.. but stat wise isn't he in the top 5 this season?

I am a total believer in not paying your goaltenders big money, which means constantly drafting one nearly every year and always having another one ready.

Paying guys like Crawford and Howard big money, and even Quick, will hurt you more than help you.

i agree with this.. i think because of all the trouble chicago had with getting a goalie that could win they jumped the gun too quickly on crawford

If we lose tomorrow we'll remain 28th overall.

If we win, we jump to 26th.

Last night's scrap can be one of those defining moments in a team's season. We're a 4 or 5 game run out of playoff contention. (For all of you nuts with any guts).

- SomeoneGerman

Is it bad that one half of me hopes they continue playing well and rattle off wins while the other half hopes they get a top 5 pick?

Borgen and Estephan were 4th and 6th round picks, IMO lottery tickets that look good right now

I did not put the ROR trade in the equation because IMO it's a good deal for both teams

we gave up a lot for kane and bogo
we gave up a lot for fasching
we gave up a lot for lehner

it's ok to overpay if you hit realistic expectations, it's a set back if kane is a fringe second line player, bogo is a 4th d man, lehner is a platoon goalie, and fasching is an ahl player (or does not sign)
