Really liking the effort tonight, on the 2nd of a back to back, to be playing like this. The results are very very encouraging. Not trying to get too ahead of myself, still have to finish, but this is starting to shape up very nicely.

Of course as I typing the second part of the dynamic team killing duo Lovejoy . . . Cole led to the first goal, and Lovejoy this one

Looks like it is shaping up into a typical Penguins game; outplay the team by a large margin and not get 2 points.

Good chance if MAF is in net the Pens are in a winning position going into 3rd. That 1st goal against was a whole lotta ugly from Zackoff.

Lovejoy seems like the easiest person to put a move on. The dude bites on everything and has no muscle to push someone off the puck

There's no excuse for that first goal but, he's only given up 2 goals as a back up who rarely plays. Obviously he's no Murray, but Zatkoff hasn't been decimated as badly as he could have been this season like some make him out to be.

Hopefully next season will see a nice 60/40 combo of MAF/Murray and Pitt will have one scary net minder tandem that will be plenty rested for a playoff run instead of the 90/10 combo happening now.

The problem is he is barely facing any shots and I'll give him a pass on the Tarasenko goal, but the Steen goal simply shouldn't have happened. It was a clown show.

Elliot has more to do with this game being tied than Zatkoff.

It was embarrassing I give him no pass on it like I said. But regardless the D always needs to step up on nights when the back up steps in. Playing once every 10 or so games is not that easy for a goalie and for a back up who is subpar like Zatkoff is, he really doesn't usually lead the team into a blowout.

Which is precisely why you dont have Murray here unless he is playing a fairly significant amount of the starts. Would we see the same effective Murray if he is only starting 25-35% of the starts this year or next year?

hard to imagine pouliot would be any worse... 2 bad plays by cole lead directly to stl goals when pens are dominating play, but lets keep putting him out there.

That was an extremely unfortunate bounce but when you consistently make mistakes you're not gonna garner any sympathy

Like I said in an earlier post, next season I'd love to see MAF/Murray do a 60/40 split. Come playoff time MAF would be plenty rested and not over extended and abuse and Murray will gain a wealth of experience with consistent play as a back up for his rookie season.

He was standing still and took a lucky swing and missed. I'm imagining pouliot making a skill play there with his feet and/or glove. At least that's what I'm hoping.

If he would have at least made the effort to hit the ice to try and block the shot I'd say ok, but even scuds would've at least tried.

Well at least after this game, maybe the coaches sit Cole and put Pouliot in. I hope they dont waste this effort tonight though. Grr Cole is so frustrating! Its Scuds reincarnated

I'd have to imagine Murray would be the backup next year. Maybe not 60-40 split, probably 70-30 or so. Zatkoff won't be resigned.

No shots this period after dominating the first 2 periods

Edit: zatkoff makes every save or opportunity look wayyyy tougher than it actually is.
