Its not that hes slow or soft hes just not a very smart player and its noticeable. In tight games he is often the weakest link.

I don't think u can ask for more than he's giving us this season
He's a 3rd pair guy, not an all-star
Has he been a mess of a 3rd pair guy in the past?
Absolutely
But not this year
This year he's doing a really good job filling is role

It's a good time. Think it's on its 5th season.

he is fine for a 6/7 d man

sabres need to figure out if he is in their plans for the next 3 years and either ship him out or extend him for a cheap deal

I think he would take a 3 year 4.5 mil package, not necessarily a bad thing, so long as they upgrade the top 4

weber, gorges, franson

if mccabe and pysyk are here long term, not traded then there is only room for 1 of the 3 I listed, maybe 2, and neither deserve more then 18 minutes most nights

a top pair d man is needed big time

Not sure how you could say he's soft, but he's definitely slow. I'm pretty sure his position could be upgraded by a quicker and/or smarter stay at home guy, even if that becomes Gorges. He's been pretty decent at times this year, but as mentioned, makes that one or two boneheaded plays that somehow screw the team.

On another note, I like what Legwand's brought to the team. As long as you don't expect offense like the Sens did, you should be pretty happy. Seems to be excelling on the PK and energy lines.

I don't disagree with any of that

Idk if bogosian will continue to work on the left side with Risto, but if he does then our top pair could be set

I also think that McCabe could end up on the top pair
A couple years ago, I said I thought our defense would eventually look like...
McCabe-Ristolainen
Zadorov-Myers
McNabb-Pysyk
Weber

Ugh, trading McNabb still bugs me

Idk, if he's on your 3rd pair is it that big of a loss? The way I see it is you need that top 2. You get those and the rest you can fill out. We have (most likely) half of it with Ristolainen. Now need to get that other guy. Get that and then plug the rest in.

If we drafted top 5 as much as I want Puljujarvi I wouldn't be upset if we got the defenseman instead.

So, after 46 games played, the Sabres have 42 points. That is 11 points more than last year at the 46 game mark, and projects to 77 points during the 82 games season which would be an improvement of 23 points.

How is everyone feeling now with that?

Personally, I had projected between 75 - 80 points, with an outside chance at 85 if they played well.

It's as good, if not a little better, than I expected. I see us getting hot for a bit but also see at least one more 5 game losing streak. I also wouldn't be surprised if we fell a bit after the trade deadline if we are serious about moving some upcoming free agents.

I see us getting 65-70 points and drafting between 4-8. But the games have been fun to watch again so that's the biggest takeaway

Article on Ristolainen. 31 points in 46 games, -8 on the year. Does he make the World Cup of Hockey team for Finland this summer?

Edit: Btw, Risto is 8th in scoring for a defenseman. He is 2 points away from being tied for 4th. Of the top 10, only 3 players have a positive +/- rating. They are
3. John Klingberg +10 (DAL)
7. PK Subban +11 (MTL)
9. Brent Seabrook +8 (CHI)

This is kinda how I figured it would go as well. Two weeks ago, a good majority around here were kicking and screaming because of the losing streak and being in 29th place. There were quite a few hitting the panic button saying we weren't going to win a game all month.

Nice.... I love how this team is hitting its stride right now. Going good. Showing some grit and fight. Not backing down.

Oh and beating the #1 team in hockey last weekend.. HANDILY as well.

What the hell was Duclair thinking.. that 5'11 185 frame starting fights with grown men.

The team is inconsistent. I think it's mostly due to how young it is overall. But they are a much improved team overall, even if the standings don't show it as much as some would like.

Even last year's team went through a stretch where they were winning games. The difference is last we we were beating teams by luck and goaltending in that stretch. This year we're hitting our stride and starting to do the things that you have to do to win games.

Scoring first in these games has been huge. We've had the 1st goal in the last 5 games and the first 2 goals in 3 of the last 5. That's the recipe to win.

Ya, can't argue with the dip after the trade deadline if they trade away guys like Kohnson, McGinn, Ennis (although he hasn't contributed anything this year), Weber and others. My hope is they resign McGinn....don't need to risk losing him, that said...don't overpay either.

I think that they are definitely young and were trying to play "from the hip" but now I think they are playing with confidence with eachother finally.

Doesn't hurt that CJ is HOT right now in net. I don't even want to give Lehner starts unless it is back to backs with CJ this hot. .936 GAA in his last 9 games and .963 in his last 3 games.

I don't think we'll try to tank like last year, but moving pieces that would leave anyways for something is fine with me. I re-sign McGinn if I can, but if he wants too much I move him and get something out of it.
