By the bye, I'm finding myself actually having the feels for ol John Scott. He legit got screwed with this allstar business. What exactly does the nhlpa do, in this world?
- nfph

By all accounts he's a good guy, smart, has a degree in engineering. He just got royally screwed by the incompetence of the NHL. Where is ol' Donny boy when you need him? There should be a grievance filed on Scott's behalf, or at the very least asking if he'll be able to play/have an exemption to play, and making all that poop public, because right now it just looks like collusion from the league and the Coyotes, I mean why else would you trade John Scott? If anyone can honestly answer that and have it make any kind of sense then I'll listen. You could make the number of contracts argument, but the Coyotes have forty something other contracts that aren't currently embroiled in controversy at the moment. The timing sucks, and it stinks to high heaven. And regardless of how he got there, he was voted in fairly. He should go if he counts against a teams number of contracts, they still have to pay him the same amount of money whether he's in the NHL or AHL it just won't count against the salary cap because it's under the $900,000 or whatever the amount is for a buried contract. He counts as one of their 48 non-exempt contracts. The NHL has got to stop pulling this bullpoop.

Because some of us are done with tanking and actually want to see this team win and grow. With the lottery the way it is this year I don't care nor want to finish last. We're a run of games away from being a competitive team. Not saying playoffs but I'd rather be competitive than rooting for the Lafs or Oilers to win.
- bluengold12

That's great and all but why would we want them to get Mathews that would be a reward I'm sure they would be crying so hard because they drafted Matthews that showed them right ..

I would rather they missed the playoffs by two pts or make the playoffs and get embarrassed like they did vs Boston that one year

The NHL was going to make a buttload of money but of course they don't realize that now no one's going to watch the game

the allstar game is a parody of a hockey game, might aswell have a parody of a hockey player playing in it!

True, I think the whole thing is stupid, but this still sucks for Scott, whose wife is due to have twins very soon. He goes from spot duty with an nhl team to getting buried in the minors, has to uproot his family and loses out on going to an event (with a possible cash prize for winning the game), basically because the league got embarrassed by its own stupid policy on setting the rosters.

I don't care about the game, but this stinks on a human level

Yeah terrible. Thing is if the nhl just had fun with it, it probably wouldnt have escalated like it did.

I really am wondering why the union isn't making a stink about this.

I'm willing to bet the players care far less about anything having to do with the All Star Game than the fans do. It seems a lot of players would rather have the time off anyway.

I am really glad you brought this up, as I've been thinking the same way since the news broke of Scott's trade to Montreal. On a human level, you are 100% correct; the league comes off looking pretty scummy in this debacle. To trade a player who has twins on the way in the very near future, to an AHL outpost located in literally the furthest point east in North America is just awful, awful business by the league. The NHLPA needs to step in and support Scott right now. It's not Scott's fault that fans found a loophole in this joke of an event and voted him in.

Overall, agreed. But I think this actually hurt Scott personally.

Get your overall point, but just to quibble I say the 3-on-3 is actually a lot more interest to watch. It's very dynamic, and having the passing element is better than someone making 20 moves just to try 5-hole. It's definitely a gimmick, though.

Honestly, coaches are starting to figure out how to defend it. At the beginning of the year, it was basically a shootout with the element of a breakout pass added in.

No trade clause as well. Hell of a contract for a guy that's been the 1B of a 1A/1B tandem most of the year.

4M+ to a goalie at 8-13-3 seems odd.

Has he been really strong since going to the Oil or something? Seems early to sign such a contract.
