Good the top guys in the draft succeed Draisaitl too. Many mentioned that it was a poor talent draft compared to most. Also read an article about Del Colle and that wouldve most likely been our vanek pick if they wanted to keep their McEichel draft 1st..
FYI Del Colle is struggling for someone with that talent

I was at his first home game with his new Frontenacs team on Friday (against the Gens) and watched him get 5 points. He'll be fine.

I can't believe the amount of people that actually want to see Lehner fail. It's baffling to me.

Why be a fan of a team if your goal is for them to fail?

- HonkFortheGoose

Water follows the path of least resistance. It is easier to be a pessimist and claim "I told you so", then to be an optimist and find a "reason" why it didn't work out.

All I know is that last year I watched maybe a total of 5 games, this year I have not missed one, and have attended 3 games in person, because of the "change" in attitude and a feeling that we are never out of it.

I fully expect Lehner to be a top half goalie, maybe better, it was never going to be this year because of a big concussion last year and the ankle just compounded everything, but he will be the #1 goalie.

I agree. And he knows it's probably his biggest weakness. He's addressed it to the media before and said that he's very conscious of it and working on not letting things get to him.
- HonkFortheGoose

The thing is though, that is part of his personality. You cant just change who you are at the snap of a finger like that.

In times of high pressure he will revert back to that.

Hopefully I am wrong, but to me it is just common human nature that tells me otherwise.

Reinhart for President.

Wonder what his foreign policy looks like.

Unfortunately we did not have a crystal ball to see into the future at the time.
The Sabres are slow, including Reinhart. He moves at a snails pace. He is slow to make decisions with the puck. I know he is young but he makes horrible mistakes, does not play with grit, and is a painfully slow skater.

- lulags

Im not going to go that far but i will agree the main reason I wanted Bennett over Reinhart was because of his motor and grit. I think Reinhart lacks in both of those areas. But I think Reinhart was the best natural center prospect available and thats what we needed the most at the time/why we picked him

He's probably going to struggle. I'm not saying he's going to come in and pitch a shutout or anything. But the team needs to give him time to re-acclimate. He's missed 3 months. When Miller suffered his high ankle injury he was only out for a month and his numbers when he came back were pretty pedestrian. It took him a good 2+ weeks to get back into a rhythm.

I'm definitely an optimist by nature, so I think that's why I don't get it. Any time I sit down to watch a game, I do it with the hope the team does well. Picking how long I think it'll take before the team's goalie gets pulled is not even remotely in the forefront of my thought.

The same things were said about Tuuka Rask. He seems to have gotten it under control a lot more over the past few years.

You are right though, it's an innate part of the make up of his personality. The difference is learning how to channel that energy in a more positive way. It can be done.

I find it laughable that people are already beginning to write off Skunk even though at times he is our best forward.

But I guess at 20 years old he is pretty much done growing as a hockey player and a person. So again.

That "grit" is going to cost Bennett playing time though. He'll miss more games with injuries and stuff.

Besides, going out and hitting everything that moves isn't really the best methodology anyway. Plus, Reinhart got knocked around like crazy in the Winnipeg game but didn't let it get to him. He still scored 3 goals and didn't shy away from any of the contact. Even after Byfuglien elbowed him in the head.

Nobody is writing him off. Some just believe there were better options in the draft

Who's written him off? He looks pretty good right now.

If anything, the narrative that Reinhart was the clear cut top forward has been destroyed.

Hell, the best forward so far might be Dylan Larkin

the o'reilly factor will not allow that

I know it's not in the cards for Sabres fans, but damn the thought of finishing just out of the playoffs, and then pulling the lottery pick out of are arses would be an unbelievable turn of luck for sports in Buffalo

Base on what?

They both have 19 points this year. You always take the Center over the winger, always

How can it be "Destoyed" when we are still in his rookie season? How about we give it you know until he is 23-24 to decide that.

"Reinhart wont ever reach the next level"
"Reinhert will never be a top flight player"
"Reinhart will never score more than 50-60 points"
"Reinhart can be used as trade bait"
"Reinhart is all around slow speed and reaction wise"
"Reinhart does not posses the physical tools"

All things that have been typed on this board. I can keep going if you would like...

Perhaps. I just would prefer a guy that wants to run through a wall for his team and plays with intensity over a more dormant style of play

Seems to be a lot of ridicule of a decision that not one person on here had any say so in the matter. Or any definitive proof that another player would have been a better choice.

Maybe 89 needs to grow some thicker skin.

You seem to be doing just fine. And BTW, I'm not singling you out for saying Lehner won't make it through the game. I just can't believe that people really have that little faith. I guess it's because I'm a cup half full kind of person instead of cup half empty.

Have you watched Larkin or Draisaitl play? They are going to be great. Reinhart might be too, but my point is that there was never a huge gap between Reinhart and the other 2 forwards coming out.

Honestly, with us getting a long term #1 center in Eichel, and long term #2 center in O'Reilly, in hindsight I'd rather have Bennett or Draisaitl.

Doesn't mean Reinhart won't be very good, or even great

I think Reinhart plays with intensity. Just because he isn't laying guys out doesn't mean he doesn't. O'Reilly doesn't either, but he definitely plays with a very high amount of intensity.
