TM seems to disagree, though i don't see the value of trading ennis for picks/prospects either.
- Sabresfan-365

Ennis has term, a decent cap hit, and can still produce. I wouldn't trade for picks. I would trade for a defenseman.

My thing about trading Ennis for Drouin is I feel like there's a good chance Drouin becomes Ennis-like. He has a higher ceiling, I just look at the two and wonder if they're that different that I want to also give up a 1st and a prospect.

I still think I would for the chance that he reaches his potential but that's something I think about first.

- Zschalberg

I think the difference would be, Ennis seems to try to beat too many people and is easy to throw off the puck. I admit I have not seen much of Drouin, but I think even if he turned out to be "Ennis 2.0", I think Ennis is on the downward part of his career and younger Ennis 2.0 would do great with these other young guys!

I read (red) his quote in that LeBrun article and it looks like you're right, he's going to stockpile again. I can only hope he goes for young established guys rather than the picks. I don't place as much faith in picks as many do on this board.

I agree but the article made it seem like they were going to move him for just value/assets not really to fill a position of need

That pic just proves that Ginner and Ennis have some of the best flow on the squad. Hate to see it go, but ROR has potential in the flow department.
- Der Kaiser

Great flow.
My point is if you can get 1st and 2nds for players that's the best case scenario.
Ennis is fishy tho i feel like his value is super low at the moment but if you get a 1st+prospect would you do it?

Im 50/50 on them. They've got what like 3 3rd rounder this year? If you finish the deadline with another 2nd (mcginn) and a 3rd or 4th(weber, Colo?) they can become assets on draft day, help you move up so that the quality of prospect your picking is better and has a higher ceiling. Murray tried it in 2014 with the three 2nds for larkin, hopefully it works this time.

Being that we are in 29th place, I think they need to get what they can for whom they can, that wont be here in 2-3 years.

List would be:

Tyler Ennis
Johan Larsson
Marcus Foligno
David Legwand
Josh Gorges
Mike Weber
Carlo Colaiacovo
Chad Johnson

Jamie McGinn (trade, then sign again?)

Other prospects may get lumped in depending on what the return would be.

- Lilroot9

everyone wants to move Larsson

2 spots still need to be filled on top 6, if girgens is one of those spots, larsson anchors 3rd line

there are no center prospects in the pipeline

He is 27 years old and a big contributor to this team's success this season.

I don't see why we would have to trade him. I think there is no problem in extending him for 2-3 years especially with Gionta likely retiring in the next year or two, Foligno a UFA, and an obvious trade or buyout of Moulson on the horizon. Not to mention Ennis's slumping play and injuries this season.

- JVince11

I wasn't advocating that we should trade him. I am saying that it might be tempting to trade him given that there aren't going to be a lot of similar options on the market (not to mention that we could retain a ton of salary). Also, Murray could have a wink-wink deal with him.

That said... I'd prefer to keep him.

Agreed, completely. Larsson has looked very good in recent games - hopefully the light has gone on.

10 centers (not named Eichel, Reinhart, Girgensons or Grigorenko) drafted in the last 5 years. Gotta be SOME sort of depth building through juniors and such.

Hopefully it works, and then hopefully we pick a guy who pans out. That's too much hope for me. I'd rather get a known commodity.

That Zucker kid from Minny looks like he could really do something with a quality center.

Was it just me, or outside of say 10 minutes of the first period and about 2-3 in the thrid, that was an awful hockey game.

I actually like Larsson, but I feel like he is a cheaper option that teams like TB or Chicago would want moving forward, RFA and could sign for cheaper. So I guess I envision him being part of a package for a younger not NHL ready prospect (Drouin?)

But I agree I would like him, but he is 3-4 line material and I am not sure he would ever be good on the 1-2nd lines. Very replaceable depth on team, heck Schaller looks pretty good most games.

I thought the same. You could hear the lack of life in the crowd and I don't blame them. I've found that lots of these games are better when watching on fast forward.

gringo traded
malone (highest on depth chart) 6th rd pick
hurley (project, 3rd line at best)
kea (fringe 4th liner)
estephan, he is the one with upside
baptiste I think was moved to the wing

sabres drafted 4 blue chip centers in last 4 years in first rd
3 are with the big club, one was moved

no blue chip centers in rochester, hence the young wingers are struggling

That's what was being said on the Minnesota board before the game. They were wondering if we were as not entertaining as they thought they were. Not sure what it is about that team but you'd think they'd be fun to watch.

Cornel seems to be doing well. http://www.hockeydb.com/i...s/pdisplay.php?pid=152379

Not saying the players are going to be stars, but to replace a 3rd line C, you don't need a star.

They can do that too, im just saying the value of adding those picks isn't just in drafting players. McGinn right now doesn't help you land a quality known commodity. but if you somehow got a 1st for him, or even a 2nd and used your 2nds to move up to the 1st round, now you've got an asset everyone wants instead of a pending UFA.

If someone will give a 1st I'm good with trading him, assuming he wants 4M a year. If he want to stay for 2 years at 3M then I'd probably keep him instead.
- Zschalberg

you're not going to sign a 20 goal scorer(he'll prob. hit that this season) for $3M, not in this league anymore

This is exactly correct. I am not trading Larrson that looks like a top 6 player, I am trading a 3rd line player as a cheap substitute for a playoff team. In a few years, we will be trading our 3rd round pick for a guy like him (or whatever hole we have at the time) to help our playoff push go to the next level.

The issue with trading a lot of these players and not getting current NHL talent back in the deal is the team may (most likely) look worse for the rest of the year and people will say he was tanking again, but this is what the bad teams do (non-playoff teams, as they should. If they did not, how would playoff teams get rentals?).

Kukla's Korner on Buffalo as sellers at deadline:

http://nhl.com/hockey/com...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Thinks Ennis could be our best asset to move at deadline.

- JVince11

I disagree.

He's had a tough year but I'd like to see more of a healthy Ennis playing alongside Eichel.

Plus, you trade Ennis this year and you get only half of his actual value....let's give the guy some slack, after all he was really the only player that never slowed down his consistent play throughout the past 3 sheet seasons, and now that he's hit a rough patch he's gone?....that makes no sense.

It only looks that way because of how bad we are right now. On a good team he's a thrid liner who you wouldn't mind keeping around but wouldn't blink twice if you had to move on from him. He's already making close to three mil, if he's asking for any sort of raise I would move on from that.
