You are correct. He doesn't play like a true number one, can you imagine how good he would look as a number 2 beside let's say, Weber, Keith, Doughty etc. ... if he was at the most a number 2, beat case a number the or for then we wouldn't be complaining about his 5 million salary.
The only way your going to get better production for less money is if you have a player over perform while under contract.

Put it this way, I would rather Edler at 5 million then buff at 7.5 million.
But again I think buff is overrated and will get over paid(he is a decent 2 or 3) for to long of term.
If we could get him for 3 years at 5 million is take it and run.
Put another way(again) Edler or a player like Edler would cost more to sign at this stage of his career then his current contract dictates.

I'm going to ambulance practice soon and will be back to respond to your heckling of my anti buff talk(Vantel)

I've thought this about Buff too, truth is he bring the offense and would be our first imposing physical presence since Jovo. Edler is a better position guy, so they may make quite the pair. I personally think Buff s the way to go, just based on our needs, but I'm curious what others think as he clearly has some D-ficencies.

Buff would be a good signing for 4 years.

Brent burns is an upgrade offensively and physically no doubt but the guy is absolute garbage in his own zone. He will be paid like a #1 D but won't deliver like one.

Brent Burns the forward on the other hand would be an awesome pick up.

Edit. He also isn't an UFA until 2 more years

Come on JB. Pick up Canautton and Waive Weber. He'll for that matter, sign the kid who wins the contest to skate in warm up with the team and cut weber.

not at his price tag.

Personally I'd rather the canucks fill out the roster in UFA for a yr or 2, rather then sign big name guys
I'd love the canucks to look into Kris Russell. Kinda the forgotten man in Calgary with all the skill they have on the blue line. Kid has a nice shot, can move the puck and in a fantastic shot blocker. 2 yrs 7 mill

I know it's just twitter stuff and Botch seems to think it was a sisters comment, but if the stuff about Thornton beaking about Rick Rypien is true, then (frank) him.

It wasn't a sisters comment. No way. Sedin was livid after the game, never seen him so angry

the thing I like about this plan is that if we do this we bottom out again next year, which I think might be a good idea. Buff IMO makes this team able to make it in the pacific if the young guys continue to compete.
Wideman will get traded, russell resign. Book it.

Sutter is on the trip but I heard Ian Mac saying he was talking to him and he sounds rather reserved about his progress. Hoping he might be ready by the end of the road trip and if not , one of the first few games after the all-star break. To paraphrase.

The thing I like about signing Buff and Lucic to their undeniable 7 mill per contracts, is we won't have money around to sign the kids long term. Not to mention they can sit on the bench while Buff and co play mediocre hockey. Best rebuild you can ask for.

It will take 4 years to get good, it's a waste of a signing and a waste of his last contract.

It looks like I was saying I wanted him. I don't really want him. I think Russell would be a very good signing.

With buff I just meant 4 years is better than 7 . I am only half intrigued if he comes here. I agree get Russell cheaper

In 2 yrs when a few of these kids are entering prime yrs we should look into big money signings.
