I wonder what kind of return you get after you have a press release where you advertise that you're trying to get rid of someone. Guess we'll find out.

Probably didn't have much value to begin with

This.

Still an odd move going public, none the less.

Before you take this seriously, look at what Ron Hextall has done since taking over as GM of the Flyers.

This isn't Paul Holmgren's big splash, no long term view Flyers anymore. This is a Flyers GM whose biggest and most lauded trades have been ones where he exchanges high priced vets for prospects and picks and clears cap room. He's resisted making trades where he adds a veteran, except for the Harntell for Umberger deal, where the primary goal was to free up two years of cap commitment.

There's no way that trading for Byfuglien makes any sense, and even chasing him as a UFA is also illogical, unless the Flyers trade both Mark Streit and Evgeni Medvedev. Given the huge contract Byfuglien will demand, it makes even less sense.

I think Streit will be dealt at the Draft. Medvedev is 50/50. They might sell because they dont believe they are in a playoff position or they will keep him and try to compete.

I'm not so sure they have any desire to deal Streit. Still going to need veterans even with the young defensemen filtering in, and Streit is very dependable. They may well decide to keep both into next season, if Medvedev can be re-signed for a reasonable term/money.

With Vinny gone, they gained some flexibility and there's no need to deal away Streit or even buy out Umberger.
