Ghost and Buff would be a pretty interesting pairing. Just saying. Trade won't happen tho.
- arichardson22

Byfuglien is going to be 31 soon, and I assume he's going to want one last contract to see him through to retirement. And I also assume he isn't going to get skinnier or faster with age.

Pick him up in the off-season for a few years? Maybe. Trade prospects and picks for him? Not a chance. Hexy would be blowing up all the work he's done to date.

The Flyers aren't getting Buff. We have legit defenders coming soon.

Pens gonna be the 8th seed again this season, if they're lucky?

Also, Matt Cooke.

- wolfhounds

Didn't Matt Cooke play for the Wild for the last few years before he retired?

That's an idiotic reference!

Also, Voracek!

Why would any team give any 31 year old player a $50m contract? It is cap insanity. The Flyers and Leafs are finally getting the message and acting in a responsible way. There will not be an all out bidding war for Byfluglien.

Flyers should definitely trade youth they don't have for a rental of a player who can't help them

Before you take this seriously, look at what Ron Hextall has done since taking over as GM of the Flyers.

This isn't Paul Holmgren's big splash, no long term view Flyers anymore. This is a Flyers GM whose biggest and most lauded trades have been ones where he exchanges high priced vets for prospects and picks and clears cap room. He's resisted making trades where he adds a veteran, except for the Harntell for Umberger deal, where the primary goal was to free up two years of cap commitment.

There's no way that trading for Byfuglien makes any sense, and even chasing him as a UFA is also illogical, unless the Flyers trade both Mark Streit and Evgeni Medvedev. Given the huge contract Byfuglien will demand, it makes even less sense.

No idea. His best years, statistically, are likely behind him, and he's not going to be cheap to acquire in trade or to retain for next season and beyond. Anything more than 4 years is a huge risk for Buff. I don't want the Flyers anywhere near him, just not worth it.

Probably because it has been since never that we have had this highly touted a defense prospect pool with 1 or 2 possible number 1 dmen.

I'd pass on him, we have Morin coming up the ranks. I hope Hextall doesn't deviate from his 'build from within' plan. Buff is good, but he'd cost too much youth and they better not move Konecny or Provorov, I'll snap.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Dallas go after him. I don't know if the Jets would deal with a division rival tho. However, if Ek is saying that the Jets want defense prospects in return, the Stars have that. We've got quite a few knocking on the NHL door and not enough room for all of them. Heck, we are carrying 8 right now, so Nemeth and Oleksiak are in the press box most nights. Then we have Johns, Lindell, and Honka in the AHL.

While I don't know if Id want to trade some of these guys for him, or if its even enough really, I wouldn't count The Stars out of the running for Byfugliens services. Theres always a chance we could trade Goligoski, Demers, and/or Jordie Benn as well since they are all pending UFAs. Not sure Id like to lose Demers or Goligoski tho. Im pretty sure that Dallas will be in the market for a defenseman by the trade deadline to bring in some experience and more of an impact to the d-corps overall.

Also, to go off topic and bring up Drouin, what do you guys think of a Nichushkin for Drouin swap? Think it would fly? Probably have to sweeten the deal a little tho. I love Val, but Drouin is enticing as well, lol.

Flyers interested in Big Buff

I think this rumor has been used enough over the last 4 years on this site.

Why doesn't this "breaking" Higgins trade news have its own blog yet, Ek?

I guess the servers might have trouble with all the traffic it would generate...

I wonder what kind of return you get after you have a press release where you advertise that you're trying to get rid of someone. Guess we'll find out.

"Where there is smoke there is fire."

Where's the fire ? Ek rumors ? Good lord tell me you're kidding. I haven't heard one insider, not named Eklund, say the Flyers were after Buf. There's no fire, it's just alot of hot air

- twpguy

It has been reported everywhere. TSN at one point had something about Flyers and Buf. It is not just EK and you cant sit there and say the Flyers have no interest because you don't know that. Fact is Flyers have interest in a lot of players but it doesnt mean they are going to go for them.
