But will FA allow the suck that will happen while this pays off? Vancouver is a bad market to be a GM in because the owner is a PoS.
- Retinalz

Our old guys suck mostly. The new guys are learning. In two years there won't be a lot of the old guys here. Our new guys will be better and we will be pushing to play the even newer guys like Boeser.

I think GMs want to protect their jobs too. You'll always have cowboys who throw out ridiculous proposals but we are already seeing a shift in the way GM wheel and deal these days. That's obviously an effect of the salary cap but it also has to do with hesitation of making that 'stupid' deal.

The johansen/jones deal is smart and safe. I don't think you are giving jones enough credit. Young defenseman (21) playing behind Weber and Josi. We all know dman take longer to develop and he already shows offensive ability at a young age. His defensive abilities need work but that’s typical for such a young prospect.

Don't underestimate Clb's need for a #1 Dman. Issues with johansen have been systemic going back to previous regimes. I think Clb needed D help more than they needed to get rid of johansen.

I agree the deal is smart and safe and think both teams end up "winning" and don't get me wrong I think that Jones is an elite prospect and will be a great player.

Had Johansen not had health issues and subsequent conditioning issues, I don't think there is any way Jones alone gets the deal done and that is my point. Johansen put together 2 very impressive seasons prior to this year and while he has underachieved this year, he still has 26 pts in 38 games and only 4 back of the team lead.

Jones for all his potential has yet to actually prove he will be the top pairing guy that he projects to be.

No, he won't... he's got a huge ego and like I said in the other thread, if things aren't going well he's not above pulling tantrums and firing whole staffs and selling off to salve his ego. He'll accept maybe one year of just missing the playoffs, especially if it's because of injuries, but if it continues, expect him to dump JB and WD in a flash. The simple fact is, the paying fan isn't going to want to pay what the organization wants for tickets and merchandise if we start playing badly.

He'll give JB and WD this year, but if 2016/2017 starts out badly he'll put his mitts in and the tire fire will begin.

I've said all along I like the youth of this team ( Hutton Marky Bo JM and JV). Sven has grown on me and I am sure he has grown on others here. I see a very good second line developing with these guys mentioned. That said I still want Mathews or the two Finns this year. So one game doesn't change my thinking.

If we were lucky enough to land Mathews , the big question of who replaces Hank gets immediately answered.

I still see hope in Vey. He creates chances and soon they will go in. He really still hasn't played a full year. I think him and MCCann play well together and would look great with Hansen

I'd rather an owner like FA then one who is not willing to pay top money. If it was all about the dollar(maccaw era) then we would be a salary floor team not a cap team.

The foundational player that is Brandon Sutter
All jokes aside i do like Sutter but Replacing Henrik without getting matthews is going to be tough.

I think Canucks will be fine truthfully. The other night when Hank was injured MCCann stepped in and did ok. It was a short time but I think in three years Bo JM or Sutter could cope with top line duties.

Mathews is a better solution but otherwise we will be fine.

Trade for RNH i hear he is expendable in Ontario, offer a package around Tanev(oh noes not Tanev)and Draft all defense this upcoming draft. Also go all in to get that russian dude that has been so highly touted.

I like RNH, I would send Tanev or Edler over for him. I don't see him as a bust.

If you think it is painful watching the Canucks now, it will be brutal without the Sedins. I really like Bo and JM as future pieces and Sutter to help transition but none of them will able make this team competitive the way Hank and Dank do.

Devils advocate here, so your saying that you wouldn't be happy if the vets on this team grind out a playoff spot and go on a run. Culminating in a return to the cup final. .....
And that if the kids play a huge roll and we win enough games to just miss the playoffs then that's OK because the kids where the ones driving the bus. ....

In the Pacific wwhoever misses the playoffs will get a top 10 pick. I would rather get in and see what happens then cheer losing. Do you know who loses? Losers lose. Look at the leafs and the oilers. Do I want that hot mess on my hands? Can I hear a hell no?
If wetrade expiring vets at the deadline I can be on board with that. Add long as we try to win.
Tanking is for bums and bum lovers, not that there is anything wrong with that. If we end up at the bottom naturally then that's OK, but I will not cheer or support for losing.

I think you are wrong. Same as we lost the West Coast express someone else stepped in.

RNH is a better center with more upside than any center on Van, except Hank.

Exactly we will be just fine post-Sedins as long as the club is built well. I think JB can do it.

What are the chances that Higgins gets bought out of the last year of his contract if no one is willing to take him?

He has also played longer than Bo and JV . Give them two years we won't need RNH. He will soon be third line on the Oilers

For right now yes...he is. But with Bo's and McCann's upside that might change in a year or two. But I would not mind RNH on the Nucks...not super tough but brings a lot.

I wouldn't be happy, because clearly some alternate reality would have invaded ours or ww3 happened.
