He's arguably the best goalie in Hockey, definitely top 5, and young.
We should have got more.

The return for Edler should be huge but it doesn't always work out that way.

The return for Schnieder, Luongo and Kesler should of been huge as well and the predicted returns here were much higher than the actual.

If you can get a big haul for Edler than it is worth it but it is far from guaranteed.

Shoulda woulda coulda...

GM's were handcuffed the Lou and Kes cause they were pouting and acting like tools...manipulating the media and disrupting the changeroom were Lou and Kes' thing.

As far as Schneider I think we did just fine. Bo is gonna be a stud every bit as impactful as Schneider. In few years no one will care.

Edler now would get decent return as there are always eastern teams that inquire on him. CAR-PHI-DET and I've even heard MTL. As long as there is interest there will be value. Can't really use Kes and Lou as an example as they were crybabies handcuffing MNGT.

I think so too. Trading a goalie coming into his own as a vg starter for a high end pick but still with risk...

but Horvat has lived up to the billing. sounds so cliche in a lot of his interviews, but I think he is really focused on his goals and how to get there. whatever it takes for the team to succeed.

Etem was assigned to a conditioning stint. Bob Mckenzie states many teams are calling on Etem and that NYR are listening. Trade COULD happen later today.

We need to not dwell on this trade that happened years ago.

Let's talk about waiving Edler and then just getting 2 D men to replace him for the same money. Much more current.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

He still plays well positionally, and a sound defensive game overall. His first pass is still good, and he is still a sound decision maker.

His absence from this lineup has been very noticeable.

- golfingsince

I agree with this...I am not ready to ship him off, nor should the canucks be. Build the D up 1st.

His replacement would be making 3.6 which is definitely not an over-payment because that player would hit.

Return for luongo would have been huge but gillis didn't sign on the dotten line, then had his hand forced. Kesler was the same way, would have had a better return but Gillis was a turd. The Schneider trade wasn't small by any means, but it was more of an F-U to EDM than anything. Rumor was that Gillis wanted more out of EDM for inter conference trade and they wouldn't give it.

In other news. Rumblings of a possible Jensen for Etem are ciculating on twitter. Two players who desperately need a wake up call.

The thing with Kes and Lou was the NTC's, Not sure the details with Edler's NTC, there was an article a while ago on Edler being insulated from the media here, players running interference for him. He might like that protection here. Maybe a smaller market where they don't care would work for him, but can't see him waiving to go somewhere there is just as much media scrutiny as here. He's all set here with his support group.

A coach tried that(the wrong coach, but still tried) named Torts. We missed the playoffs and he immediately got fired. WD may be too scared to try something and risk his tenure as an NHL coach(his dream job).
- Retinalz

torts never did squat. He was lazy....never ran a single practice and went home after the press talk to walk his dogs.
So no, torts never instituated anything here. All he did was say block more shots then leave

Okay. I'll set it up. Draft Sunday night at 9pm.
- Scooby_Doo

Last day for live draft was Dec 27th. Yahoo no longer allows a live draft, we'd have to do an offline draft and submit players.
Way too hard to get that going.

Will have to wait until next season unfortunately.

To put this simply, when the board was discussing those player's worth, it was higher than what was received, Edler is not worth moving at a discount and then coming up with excuses why he is a addition by subtraction.

Horvat will need to become our most important player for him to be every bit as impactful as Schneider. Possible but not likely IMO. Again Sorry Vantel et al for you cornflakes.

I like the prospect of the trade, but not the fact that we would have to play Etem on the NHL roster......unless Higgins gets gone.

Who else, this team has been brutal without him...... he is easily an upgrade over Edler, not to mention he is a first round pick.

Tanev upped his shot blocking under Torts, if there are some positives from him being here there are even more now that he is gone.

Funny how a coach who talks about the team coming first, is such an apparent diva, or needs time to get away with his dogs or he starts losing it?

That would be sweet, but I can't see Jensen ( who has been playing okay this year in Utica) being worth Etem.

I think we would have to give up Gaunce, who personally I think would be a mistake considering waiver eligibility.
