ennis and deslaurers are on ir, plus they have an open roster spot right now

if they made the claim, no move needs to be made for the roster for a while, and the easy move is schaller back to rochester and dress 7 d men for the short term

Was he given up on by Arizona or was he traded? Because that's different. With Colorado that's giving up unless they just really want him in the minors and think he'll pass through

traded for a young d man picked in the middle of the second rd,

My friend and I were talking about him yesterday. He may be one of those guys that has all the talent he needs, but needs more time to develop. Think along the lines of Campbell. He may need additional time in the AHL, but unless he goes unclaimed, he's not going to get it and it could end up detrimental to his game overall and hurt his career.

Possibly. If that's the case I take him now, play him with limited minutes, and then if he needs to start in Rochester next year you do that. If it works, cool. If not, I haven't lost anything.

At the time of the trade arizona was called charitable for it. Now looks like they just wanted anything for a bust of a first round pick.

You'd still have to waive him at the start of next year to go the AHL though.

Guy he was traded for has 82 total games of NHL experience over 5 seasons. 9-15-24 with a -5. Not terrible, but might be indicative as to why they traded him.

Could be just like Conacher. People were all over it when he was waived and he was always rated high and then when we got him we realized why he was waived in the first place.

I assume a few eyebrows were raised bcz of him being a former high first round pick back in 2010.

Would you? I'm trying to look up the wording and my only reference is Be a GM mode in NHL where you can start anyone in the minors to start the season but once the waivers start doing so will put them on. I'm still looking but if that's the case, I did not know that

From http://www.pensionplanpup...rs-101-a-guide-to-the-nhl

So say that a player was waived and cleared waivers in the previous season, and was not re-called at any point for the remainder of the season. In the current season, that player rejoins the NHL roster and he must clear waivers again to be assigned to an AHL team.

if u pick him up and hes not good enough to make the sabres i dont think it really matters if u lose him on waivers. His future is done with buffalo at that point.

that article is 6 years plus old

colorado, if they wanted to send him to the ahl, he has to clear waivers first

if the sabres got him, and decided a month later they wanted to send him to rochester, he would go through waivers again

remember every team could have had pommer,, due to darcy being clueless

They don't have enough forwards then. On a road trip that's not exactly ideal

I'm totally confused by what you posted above....

But in general, if a player is no longer waiver exempt, then at the start of a new season, he has to clear waivers to be sent down. It's dependent upon age and/or NHL games played. Basically, the fact that Colorado has to waive him to send him to the AHL now, means that he's no longer waiver exempt. Doesn't matter when it is that you send him there.

The only stipulation that changes that, is if he clears. He can then be recalled and play 10 games or be with the NHL club for 30 days without having to clear to go back down. If he's with them longer than that, he would then have to go through the waiver process again before he could be assigned to the AHL club.

Clarification on your 2nd part. A player can clear waivers and never actually be sent down - and then fulfill up to what you state (10 games/30 days) and be sent down.

Good to know the rule with that being said if gormley does get picked up by us and we end up sending him down to the ahl, it doesnt matter if another team claims him off waivers. His future is done with our organization at that point anyways.
