If we're talking about being a decent human being, you probably should quit your job only to give it to someone that actually needs it.

Part of the Blackhawks issues before was an angry fan base because William Wirtz refused to allow the home games to be televised. He said if people wanted to watch the team, they could come to the games. The first thing changed after he passed and his son Rocky took over, was to get the home games on TV. You can't alienate your fanbase that way and expect them to shell out that kind of cash just to see the team play at all.

The money is worth more up front. At the very least, you can put it in a savings account, and even at 0.5% you could still live off the interest alone.

A million in the bank is 50k a year in interest.

Always said I'm not greedy. I'd like to win (after taxes) a mil, put it in the bank, work for one calendar year, and then live off the interest.

Rich people can have entry level jobs too, don't think that makes it indecent. Might be better to not so someone else can, but me making money at a job isn't wrong.

If I won a big jackpot I'd feel compelled to build some kind of awesome sports and entertainment complete. The Pegula's already rocked out pretty good with the Harborcenter and we've gained a lot of ice space lately so I would have to get really creative.

The difference is that the NFL games were televised in the home market so long as the game was sold out. The Blackhawks weren't on TV if it was a home game, period. Sell out or not. Only the road games were available, and I think that coverage was also seriously limited.

For reference, from USA Today:

By the way, that $675 million figure is for an annuity paid out over 30 years. If you want your money immediately, which most winners do, you will get an estimated $413.1 million. Still nothing to sniff at.

All this talk about "tanking".

Well, I stand and applaud the NHL for creating the concept that they have now to try and prevent teams from deliberately "tanking".
Now you could pick all the way at the 4th spot and I like it very much so.
More professional sports leagues should begin to seriously look at putting the same type of systems in place when it comes to their own particular drafts.
Deliberate losers should not be awarded, they should be laughed at and I laughed at Murray last year when he lost the 1st pick, McDavid, who will IMO turn out to be the best player in last years entry draft by far.
If Murray deliberately "tanks" again this year I hope karma visits again and gives Murray the 4th pick.
Sucks when you have a General Manager that apparently only knows how to build a "winner" by purposely losing to draft high because he has shown already that his trade skills resemble something that I flushed down my toilet at 6 AM this morning.

We each have a 12 year old with ex's.

A year or two wouldn't fly and I'm not bringing the ex's with us.

That's why they are ex's......

If I win I will actively pursue buying the Buffalo Sabres from Terry and Kim.
First thing I will do is fire Murray immediately.
I would take over GM duties.
Then fire Bylsma.
Then hire Ted Nolan.
Then re-sign Mike Weber to a 4 year 6 mill contract.

The market collapse of the fall of 2008, combined with the biggest banks only getting even bigger since then, would have me quite nervous about keeping a giant sum of money in the bank, not that there is much of an alternative.

Credit Unions are going to be pretty safe for quite a while. The interest rates won't be as high, but with the kind of money we are talking about, that won't matter.
