Well, that was rather unfortunate.
I only saw the final period, but they were controlling play for long chunks of time.
Seemed Panthers made the most of their chances while the Sabres continue to struggle with effective play around the net in the O-zone.

I hate Player Only meetings, as it usually signals unrest in the locker room, but something needs to be done with guys not producing. It just can't be the same 3, r, 5 guys all the time. Each of the others needs to improve their own game...beating a dead horse, but Kane needs to find the net as in hit the damn thing when shooting. Others need to commit to wworking on their shortfalls.

And if Lehner ain't the real deal...oh boy do we need goaltending.

Timmy's got some more work to,do for sure.

Got home from the game w my 14 yr old and just caught up on the back reading. A few things:

A) one goal. Eichel and ROR w a point a piece. Everybody else, bupkiss. Where have we seen this before?

B) the stat sheet at the end of the second period had the Sabres winning every single category other than goals scored. Where have we seen this before.

C) Jagrs goal looked to sneak in shortside because our guy didn't seal the post. The second goal I'm not sure Ullmark saw it before it whizzed past his glove. WHWSTB?

Interesting note: my kid says, before the game starts, "Who is the Sabre who has been with the team the longest time? I still haven't looked at the roster, but I Think its Foligno (4 years). Yeah 4 years is our longest tenure I think. Am I wrong?

I have officially revised my position: we probably aren't good yet.

Yeah - maybe, or is it Weber?

Neither of them skated tonight.

EDIT: Weber played 16 games in 2007, Ennis played 10 in 2010. Mike Weber is the old timer for this year's Sabres. Somehow appropriate.

When we are ready to contend, imo, of course:

The core: Jack, ROR, Sam, Risto, Kane

Highly important secondary players: Bogo, Pysyk, McCabe, Gus.

Take em or leave em (i.e. trade bait): Ennis, Foligno, McGinn (deadline, free agent to be)

Doesn't hurt the team/need a guy of his ilk: Deslauriers

Bye, bye: Gorges, Franson, Legwand, Carlo, Moulson, Gio, Weber.

There will obviously be free agents, trades, other current prospects, maybe couple future draft picks (one of those Finnish studs would be nice) added.

This team is, by no means, set.

Realistic expectations would do some on these boards well.

It's insane.

I read a story today that one of the jurors claimed the only reason he was found guilty was because some of the jury feared for their safety

Agree with everything in this article.

Expectations are the reason for the disagreements.
I have been saying at best we pick 4-8 range it's a completely new/ young team that have had early injury problems, so I'm not that surprised nor upset.

On the other hand I do see why people are upset if they had higher expectations and it comes from the vets on the team. If were going to score it's 90, 15, 23, 55 or maybe 88. Long term we need 9, 26, 28 & 22 to contribute more.

Regarding prospects: you only get 50 contracts and we had so many. i have no problem trading 2 maybes for 1 sure thing. Could you lose the trade? sure, but you get the sure thing and don't have to hope for luke adam to be a top 6 guy. We have plenty of picks in this draft, the cabinet will be filled back soon.

It sucks but doesn't happen over night, have faith.

I read that. It's very interesting.

I'm up in the air about it. Fascinating part is I have no clue if he did it or not.

i dont understand or buy that tim set us up to tank with adding eichel, kane, ror, mcginn, reinhart. those players alone make a very very big improvement.

Of course it won't happen, but I'd like to see Rey be somebody entirely different. The one knock I have with the Star Wars Saga is that it's obsessed with continuity. Not everything or everyone has to be connected.

lack of trades since the season (goalie, or winger needed)

this team is too talented to struggle to score 2 goals a game getting 30 plus shots a night and 5 pp's

I would be careful lumping Kane in with those other players in the core. The reality of a hard cap is that highly important secondary players and take'em or leave'em players are part of one large category.

They can be important secondary players one day, or cap anchors the next. Obviously they are not all equal but would not hesitate to deal them if an upgrade was available or needed to because $ is tight and core player needs contract.

i agree that it seems he is content with watching them fail now and getting a top pick. But i really don't think he planned this to happen.

ror putting up points on a regular basis

check

eichel and skunk producing points on a regular basis their rookie season

check

mcginn almost .5 point per game player

bonus check

middle of the pack in goals allowed

bonus check

Risto top ten d man in scoring

bonus check

none of this adds up to 1 point out of last in the NHL

The best analogy for the rebuild that I have is, imagine I strip every room in my house down to the studs so they can be re-done completely. New wiring, new plumbing, new insulation, drywall, new everything. The type of things you can only get done by totally gutting the place. Gutting it took a long weekend. Now my house is a barren wasteland with no home feel to it. I start the remodel with core stuff like wiring and plumbing. I'm working hard but it takes time. My wife is growing impatient. We can't even have people over. It's going to be better than ever but the results just seem so far away. It strains the relationship.
