The only teams I'm worried about are Blue Jackets, Sabres, Leafs and Flyers. If the Blue Jackets can get Johansen going and go on a run, we could be looking at a very good chance of having 1st overall. Gingers crossed.

I know most on here don't want to hear it but how good would Mathews or one of those Finns look here. It would be a huge step for the future top line.

i'd also be worried about Edmonton and Phx though.

Obviously Mathews would be huge. Huge. We've never had a 1st overall.
Great runner up in one of the Big Finns. (or my dream of somehow acquiring both Finns!).
Top 5-7 looks pretty great right now.

But realistically, our odds of selecting 1st overall are not great and not enough for me to start getting excited about it.

Once the Oilers get McDavid back they'll leave us in their dust.

Guys like Cassels Jensen Fox are fading off the hockey world cliff. I am very curious to see what happens with Tryamkin this year. It will be his first eligible year. His contract is up. Will he be a nice addition or another draft failure.

Cassels coming off that injury is probably what slowed him down. I think he has bottom 6 potential still. Next year will be a make it or break it year. He couldnt work out all summer so ill give him benefit of the doubt. Im really hoping Tryamkin makes his way over next year, I would immediately give him top pairing minutes in Utica and see how things go.

Cassels lost two summers of training due to illness/injury. He needs to work and skating and building up strength. Not too many 3rd round picks are in the league at 20 years old.

He drafted high. Got rid of the deadweight and brought in veteran leadership by UFA Mitchell, Thorton , and the bust Bolland.

I have been saying don't be afraid to go to the UFA pool and get the veteran leadership . Move the deadwood out bring in a few new faces.

This is how I feel. Even if you get a 5th for burrows its better than nothing. You can always find a vet to slide in to his place in the off season. NJD picked up a few guys for nothing and could very well be in the playoffs this year.

Sad.
