What Murder every 20min? I am Floridian and I'm tired of South Florida, but even I know that statement is a stretch.
- pantherfan12

I'm obviously exaggerating with "every 20 minutes". I thought that would come across.
But Florida is in the top ten most dangerous states (2013) and was the 3rd highest in murder rates (2013).
http://247wallst.com/spec...us-states-in-america-2/2/
When I was in Fort Lauderdale last year and watched the news each night I was astounded at the number of murder stories EVERY night! It was like watching the Buffalo news and them reporting on fires! (IF you havn't seen Buffalo news it seems like every second story is about a house burning down)

I have no reason to waste my time in a city like Calgary. If I was to come to a place in Canada it would be Vancouver which I hear is very nice and I'd do it for the scenery. I've been to lots of places and know people who have been to there and I have yet to have them tell me to go to Calgary...ever. Vancouver yes Calgary

Notch one for me.
If you had indeed been to Calgary, or Vancouver you would realize that the scenery in both is absolutely stunning.
Congrats on proving a stereotype of folks who don't venture outside their own walls.

I have been to Victoria and Vancouver and can attest that it is a great place for scenery and people. There were two kinds of folks I met. One type was the people who were envious of the USA, mainly for patriotism, etc. The others were "snickerers" who every time you said something about the USA they'd give a snicker and a look. As far as Calgary goes, I'm sure it's a nice place. The other thing about the Canadians I met in B.C. is this..they don't care for the French ones. NOt taking a shot, just stating a fact. Sounds like you have some of the same issues we do..so, given all of that, I'll choose my country. I can see beautiful things and meet nice people here, and I know where the trouble spots are to stay away from...just like you do about your country.

Depends where you are.

Lots of Westerners are pretty dumb about the French thing. Personally I think it's more just casual griping more than anything as we really don't have much to fight about.

As far as the US goes, you kind of nailed it. I think we're a little jealous of the conveniences and power you have, but at the same time our priorities and values as a collective are much different than yours. I think, generally speaking, we find that a lot of the problems you have there are goddamn nightmarish and a lot of the things that happen daily there would be absolute worst case scenario here. It's not a shot, really, just that the way we view things as a collective seems to be a lot different than the way the US does.

I like visiting the US, and generally speaking I found the people reasonably friendly, but would not want to live there.

The fact that you THINK you deserve a notch means you lost. I think we have different views of what is absolutely stunning and funny a Canadian should talk about stereotypes. Pot meet kettle buddy.

I'm a firm believer of not judging anywhere until you've been there. Every place has it's pros and cons (even Buffalo!!)
Far too many folks will write off a place on hearsay from friends or acquaintances.
I've been to US cities I quite liked, Chicago, Maui, Boston, Ft Lauderdale, etc.
And others that were not the most enjoyable... but I'm sure they had nice spots I never hit.
As for the French (I'm Anglophone and in the Toronto area), it is mostly due to a perceived "special treatment" for Quebec. I can see both sides of the argument, but have no problem with the French wanting to be a distinct population. (Canada is accepting of all faiths and backgrounds and is not a melting pot where you give up your culture upon getting citizenship. Which makes for some pretty amazing interactions with friends and neighbours). In the West I also came upon folks that immediately snickered when they found out I'm from the Toronto area (the "center of the universe") as they feel that we get "all the attention" for the country... but we also have the biggest slice of the population.
Long story short their are bumholes everywhere and great people too.

There's a reason I didn't answer your question and that's because I don't feel like I need to justify anything to you and it's a silly question that leads to a pissing match but if you must know plenty.

Now I've spoken with a lot of people from the country to the north over the years and argued many times that it's ruined my perception of it's people. Now I know there are good and bad people everywhere but more times than not the people I've spoken with think they are God's gift to the world and everyone else is beneath them. I was a big fan of our neighbors to the north but over the years have grown weary of their pompous attitude. I don't normally pigeon-hole people but in my case the majority ruined it for the minority. Just my opinion on something you asked about. Can't wait to hear your response.

Let's go point by point here.
-CFL is actually HUGE to a lot of folks in Canada. (not me personally) Many watch CFL and hate hockey all together.
-You being "well traveled"... I find it hard to believe your travels have brought you to places like Edmonton and Calgary. I've had family in each and that is the only reason I ever went.
-Nightlife being open til 4-6am... Ahhh... now I get it. I'm guessing you're in your early 20's. I remember my first beer...

- mlindsay

Let's get one thing straight the CFL has a bunch of cast aways that couldn't either make it in the NFL or wasn't good enough to make it to the NFL. So I'm sure that's an amazing sporting event to go to.

When it comes to traveling in Canada I've been quite a bit actually. For work, recreational purposes and hockey tournaments. Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa. Vancouver and Toronto are by far the best to go to. Vancouver for the view and Toronto for the good times. I never need to go to Edmonton from what I hear its not worth it..

I'm just gonna take a guess here, your probably and older gentleman with a family and kids? So to you nightlife is probably not a big deal, but to people my age 27, quite enjoy the nightlife when they go on vacation to other places. So, sorry that I don't wanna be sent home when 1:50 comes around. I'm gonna take a guess that you were once my age, correct? So I'm sure you can appreciate where I'm coming from. If not than you must be a lame ass person.

I hope the Panthers keep up their success, because it's such a great sports area and also because of Dale Tallon. Tallon was a GREAT color announcer with Pat Foley for many years, was a good hockey player for the Hawks and of course basically built this championship team from scratch, even though he doesn't get much credit - most of it goes to Stan Bowman, who's done a great job, but Tallon (and Mike Smith before him) built the majority of this team.

Looks like he's doing it again. Two very good hockey franchises in Florida - who would have predicted that?

wow...
So because they are not in the NFL there is no sense watching? Ever been to a junior hockey game? How about College Football? None of them are in the highest league... so it must be pointless.
As for your experience in many of these places... the inside of a boardroom/hockey rink really won't give you much of an idea as to what the place is about I'm afraid.

If you're 27, I'm afraid to say there is less than 10 years between us. I enjoy going out. I don't need to be out til the wee hours chasing tail though... did plenty of that while living abroad. Happily married with no wee ones. If you're going out til 6am... you wouldn't be able to do my job in the morning... requires a lot of concentration and liability shall we say. Folks in the US like to sue people in my line of work for malpractice... up here not so much... but where you are for sure.

Yup doc you got it all figured out don't ya? I'm a good judge of character and been right a whole lot more than wrong and I just get the sense that Canadians feel they're above everyone else. I used to think they were nice, understanding people but since I've met and spoke many through the years I've come to realize they dislike Americans. Now, obviously this cannot be said for all, but I find more feel this way than the ones who don't. Again, this is how I feel and my opinion and you brought up the question earlier as to why?
