The trouble is, Schenn is just a guy. He's a solid middle six guy, and he's far from a bad player, but he's just a guy. He's reaching the age now where he's in danger of remaining just a guy for the balance of his career. You can only bank that "used to be called the best player outside the NHL" stuff for so long.

He's 24 now, not ancient, but he's still basically the same guy he was two years ago. Just a guy. Still very inconsistent, still prone to disappearing totally when he's not scoring. Subpar defensively, doesn't exactly stand out at anything...just a solid middle six guy.

He's just a guy. They won't miss him when he's gone -- did I hear right that the goal he scored against the Kings was his second in 16 games?

He just can't get those horrific gaps out of his game

He's best in Jake's spot on the PP, so you have a point there.

Do you think he could replicate/improve Schenn's production in Schenn's spot?

His point totals could grow more too, couldn't they?
- PhillySportsGuy

Nope, impossible. I'm right.

Don't worry. His pt/60 will be fine. Thats what happens with that stat. 12 minutes on the 4th line results in a higher pt/60 than 18 minutes on the top line.

It's a tough area on the ice. No touches. Acts as a screen. When he does touch it, it's a split second decision. Pass or shoot. If he shoots, Schenn has to be incredibly accurate. Raffl and Vinny struggled some here.

Put Schenn on the 4th line with no PP minutes and see what happens to his point totals.
- PhillySportsGuy

They actually kind of did that when Bellemare was hurt. It was the 3rd line, and it didn't go very well because BSchenn can't carry a line at center.

But he's much better on the top PP unit than Raffl.

Realistically, I see him getting shopped to a Cup contender for a 1st rounder. TB is going to have some cap issues next year, so moving Drouin for a guy making millions doesn't make sense to me.

Brayden Schenn might get traded this year. If he does, he might end up on a team that puts him in a spot he can thrive in.

Like on the top line with an elite player and on the top PP with two elite players?

If Ghost is scratched tomorrow along with Manning would anyone here be mad?

I'm perfectly fine with the kid getting a rest while they keep playing Luke Schenn with less than two months till the trade deadline. And as good as Ghost has been, I think Streit is still a better 5 on 4 PP QB.

How bout trading two picks for a player they released last year? Ish Smith. I believe they released him.

Agreed, but the PP is terrible this year, so it's not really saying much. In all honesty, I think Schenn is the least important of the 5 players on the PP anyway.

I wouldn't be mad if they scratched him. I'd be mad if he was scratched for a prolonged stretch (3+ games).

We've already had the debate that Schenn should be carrying Giroux or Schenn is somehow holding Giroux back, even though I've seen Giroux carry a guy like Arron Asham. Giroux has to be better. He has to be the best player his line and on this team. Lately he hasn't.

He even got to play on G's right wing, which is the side he prefers if he can't play center.

I'd be fine with it. No law saying he has to play every game. I said the same about Manning. I don't want Ghost sent down, but I am ok with him getting a breather every now and then

I'd be a little annoyed. Ghost needs to play. His development is more important than getting 2nd for Schenn instead of a 3rd.

I could see a team like Anaheim or San Jose. They can offer a pick and maybe some prospects on ELC.

They let him walk, which is different than releasing him. Sucks to give up assets for him, but it's not that big of a deal. Team could have 4 first rounders along with Saric and Embiid joining the team next year. Those 2nd rounders were going to be used as draft and stash players anyway. They can always acquire more 2nds if they need to anyway.
