Looks at standings...

both teams are above the Sabres...

- Stripes77

5 points separate them.. not really worthy of an arguement

When one goalies stats are better than the other 2 goalies mentioned when each team is in the bottom of the league I think it says that one goalie is playing better than the other 3...is that not the discussion here?

it seems like a goalie is either great or trash. Chad is neither, you can tell he is getting the feel of it better with more time but yes he is not good enough to be a starter. I think if he were sent back to a full back up roll with limited starts the chad of last season will come out to play
- IndianaSabresFan

Hes a dime a dozen back up goaltender that is enjoying his time in the spot light. I have watched this guy let in horrible goals this year. Shots that need to be stopped, careless playing of the puck. I dont mind him as our back up this season but when people say hes playing "great" and that Ullmark is expendable and that we should re sign him to a 3 year deal, its really laughable. Not saying you said those things

i think he is our best shot at goalie based on what i have seen.. but i still don't think he will ever be ryan miller elite. imo he will be a top half of the league goalie, but it will be closer to the middle than the top
- IndianaSabresFan

I mean again its way to early to say those things. He is our best prospect in goal at this point to im not looking to move him for a draft pick. Hes worth more to us than that. Lehner hasnt been healthy and is not a sure thing. Hes a high upside insurance plan

It's all crazy talk, not that anybody is actually saying or believing that.

Ullmark is ideally suited for the team as either a playing partner to split duties with Lehner, especially considering Lehner's recent injury history.

Chad Johnson is a warm body. He was never intended to be the future. He was never meant to play as much as he had. Ullmark was never meant to be in Buffalo this much either. Lehners injury had created this situation. It's been kind of nice because we've seen Ullmark get some good time in.

What are your (and anyone else please chip in) thoughts on comparing McCabe with Pysyk?

I ask because Pysyk has had injury issues (hell, if Lehner is "injury prone", Pysyk is on his last legs!) and just wonder if Pysyk would be the better person to move if other teams liked him.

I like the player, so no one needs to jump on me for wanting to move him...

McCabe has more value to us bcz hes a lhd.

Not sure if I missed something but no one said resign Chad. I just want Ullmark to the minors. They said trade Ullmark if Lehner comes back and looks great but that's just hypothetical.

Chad hasn't been great. Chad has been surprisingly pretty good. He's done better than anyone expected. He's lost us some games and let in some bad goals and shouldn't be our #1 goalie but he isn't. He's a backup and is okay with what he's done so far. Better than someone like Lalime when Miller went down. Or was that Thiabult?

oh i agree that we do not want to sign him for anymore than 1 year as a backup. . i also said possibly in a different post that i think once he is relegated back to a real back up with minimal starts that he will become a whipping boy.

Gotcha, I was confused by how you answered it so maybe I was confused by what was actually being discussed.

Johnson hasn't been Islander bad like he was last year he isn't a ad back up to have.

When it comes to a back up goalie when they find their true starter whether its Ullmark or Lehner a Johnson type is exactly what is needed in the back up role. I don't want two hot shots competing for the net every single year. Find your guy and move the other one while you still can. Don't spend $3-$4 million on both goalies. Just my $.02

2007-08 was that? Someone from the devils I believe ran into Miller and hurt his leg. We were trying to make a push and that killed it because our backups were terrible. Was it Gomez? I think it was Gomez.

But wasn't Gomez on the Rangers? Someone help me out

Edit: "Miller suffered a high-end ankle sprain on February 22, 2009, in a game against the New York Rangers, which kept him out of action until late March. Despite Miller's strong 34–18–6 record during the 2008–09 season, the Sabres narrowly missed out on qualifying for a playoff berth."

God my memory is fuzzy.

I had Gomez right. He was a former Devil so that's close enough. And the years all blend together between 06-07 and 09-10.

09-10 was fun. Miller looked great and I really thought we could have beaten Boston had they not taken Vanek out with that cheap slash. 10-11 was a fun playoff series but we were outmatched. (frank)ing Leino

Yea, or they can go cheaper. Keep the pick look for someone who has the talent but value has taken a hit. I always think of the stempniak for steen trade as the example for that. Doesn't have to be that extreme but that's the idea.

I remember that game. That's the one where Gaustad and Myers stood around and did nothing in retaliation for a hit on their friend and goalie, right?

Wait, "the one"? Did I say that?
