Is $2M the going rate for a 4th line player?

With Legwand exiting stage left and someone like Schaller replacing him next season, his $2M won't be a problem.

Moulson, on the other hand, is likely going to cost them keeping McGinn.

- kingcong39

Disagree. Especially if McGinn will sign a 2 year deal. What would stop us from signing McGinn would be the upcoming year where Kane, Sam, and Jack all need to be signed. If by that time Moulson's contract is in the way we'll either buy it out or we'll stash him

I'd say 1.5 is your going rate for a younger 4th liner.

Gregory Campbell, Marcus Kruger, guys like that who are viewed as good 4th liners make 1.5

There are two prime time LW prospects in this coming draft, and if they get one of those, I do not want the four LW positions to already be filled by Kane, McGinn, Moulson, and Foligno.

To me, the ideal slotting would be: Player X, Kane, McGinn, Foligno.

Moulson = OUT.

Moulson has been playing RW lately, so that's possible as well

Can he play the pressbox instead?

I just pray he's gone by next year. Although I doubt it happens.

Year 4 and 5 of that deal could seriously effect us competing for a cup.

I'm amazed that this even is a thing right now. It's 100% true
- sbroads24

That's the downfall with having a young team. Your good prospects, well most anyway are already on the team.

Add in the trades that were made he does have to restock.

I don't think it's a alert level red or even orange but he does have work to do.

That being said if you could get a player like Drouin at the cost of a player like Ennis and a draft pick (not our 1st) I don't really care about taking on a bad contract for the next few seasons as long as that contract expires when Eichel and Reinhart are due raises.

Add Drouin and get an impact player at this draft and you have a top 6 full of speed and talent and most importantly not costing $10 million a player.

If Murray can some how move Moulson at the deadline or the draft it would be huge to clear up money to target some bigger named players during FA.

I know the name and his draft status, but nothing more. I understand Cooper is using the triplets over Drouin, and that this is controversial.

Posters in other threads who claim to have seen Drouin as a junior claim there are all kinds of red flags around his game and that they aren't surprised he is having trouble breaking through into the show. Lack of work ethic, no defense - Vanek type stuff.

If this is true, is the potential even worth Ennis and the first this year?

Speed is the main reason I would target Drouin. We need more of it in a bad way.

Eichel and Drouin would be dangerous every time they hit the ice. Keep Girgensons on the left of them so they aren't a complete tire fire defensively

I wouldn't trade our 1st at all this year. I would do Ennis and maybe our second. Having a player with his offensive talent and speed on a line with Eichel and Girgensons I think you have something there. Not to mention using him on the PP.

Ennis to me is so far lost in what is going on he needs a change. I also don't think Ennis is enough to make it happen though, but who knows if Tampa really wants to get something for Drouin and moving a bad contract they just might bite but I think there are other teams that could package something better.

If he had 1 year left after this I could see it.

Only way I see it happening is if we decided to do a swap for someone like Phanuef who has an even worse deal, but is a better player.

Oh I agree. I don't think Phanuef would be bad here though. He wouldn't have to be the man as that is clearly Risto.

What said does he play. Could you pair him with Risto and extend his career even more?

He hasn't really been the man under babcock either but he's still been pretty bad. He's an overpaid 2nd pairing guy with a cannon on the powerplay. Would prefer someone who can at least skate well.

He's a lefty, and I would take him, but only if we are getting salary retained and able to offload Bogo or Gorges.

Personally, I would go all in on Yandle, and move Bogo or Gorges in the offseason.

Thinking just off the top of my head

Kane ROR Reinhart
Drouin Eichel Girgensons
McGinn Larsson Gionta
Deslauriers Legwand Foligno

Then you still have Moulson in the mix somewhere.

I like the top 8...Gionta ehh

He has a positive relative Corsi, and still scores decently at even strength.

I don't think he's great, but bad is a strong word

Honestly I don't think it's a big deal at all. If we can't get rid of him by the 4th year I see him being in Rochester. We'd eat the cost of his contract but it'd be better. He gets 4 million in the 4th year and 3 in the 5th of actual dollars. Not cheap, but not outrageous.

I don't think he stops us from doing anything.

I was having a chat with a friend of mine earlier today about Yandle.

I think the same thing, someone would have to move as that would make the blue line extremely crowded.

Risto, Pysyk, McCabe, Bogo, Gorges, Yandle, Franson

Now I have liked Gorges game but he isn't getting any younger. He could be a good bottom pairing guy but his contract is pretty up there.

I'm honestly surprised at all the hate for GMTM already. He has had 2 drafts to start putting a team together. We are what..the second youngest team in the NHL? Anyone who was expecting a quick turn around is just insane.

The Panthers are a perfect example of how it takes time. Dale Tallon built the Hawks team that won the last few cups or at least the core of that team. He moved onto the train wreck of the Panthers and even though they made the playoffs one..they haven't been that much better if better at all than the Sabres. If the Panthers had a fan base like the Sabres or Oilers I'm sure people would of wanted him hanged after 2 years. Now they are at the fore front 5 years later.

TM isn't done, I like what he has done at the draft in 2 years and the trades he made. I believe the core is here take or give 1 player. Now lets let the team grow and fill in the gaps from here. We can only go up.

Finns win gold I think no matter who they are playing in the gold medal game.

They are feeling it, and they have the crowd behind them
