Matt,

I enjoy your use of stats. I'm a firm believer in repeatable sustainability.

But....... who are you to say some 24 year old kid who grew up with temptations that any archaeologist could only dream of isn't ready for a second chance? Are you beating off groupies on your minimum wage salary? Are you in the midst of your early twenties with cash and fame? Maybe you are just simply too young. Maybe you haven't had the misfortune to need a second or third chance. How lucky is that?

Kassian has proven skill. I'm cheering for him to both stay clean and make an impact at the NHL level.

I hope Kassian turns this into his own personal redemption story. Go to hell anyone wishing otherwise.

Matt, you are kind of a douche. Get over yourself

- OilRunsDeep

If zack ever scores 15 and 40+ while aggravating opponents and creating space for the smaller skill the oilers have, Matt will be signing his praises of redemption and perseverance

It was super douchey blog/comment

Either way, I have no problem giving him a shot as we lose ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in a player who was never going to don oiler silks again. And we're the same cap wise. And will be as well at the end of the season if zack doesn't work out

To be fair, Kassian has been super douchey so far.

Oh totally

But this shouldn't suggest he could never possibly turn it around and is a forever cancer to any locker room he enters

Time will tell and it's pretty much zero risk.

I listened to kassians radio interview and I can totally see why pc gave him a shot.
(Aside from the useful skill set he has)

His leash will be short and he can walk if he fuks it up

To be honest I would say nobody won this trade as there is nothing about either player that will impact either team. Scrivens has a little more class than Kassian who is fresh out of the jungle.

We all were, but most of us were called out on our doucheyness. And Kassian isn't exempt from criticism.

You were not rich with groupies in your twenties.....dont pretend you can relate to his level of temptation.

Were you beating them away with a stick in the parking lot of your fastfood/warehouse/lawnmowing job?

Thats a ridiculous comparison

You're right he has more women and money than your average 20 year old so he should be exempt from criticism. Never thought "affluenza" would be validated by a Canadian on hockey buzz. Kudos sir.

I don't think this is completely true

Both players have a skill set that can absolutely help. The question isn't CAN they help, of course they can. That's what they were traded for.
It's WILL they help

But I can agree that there is no loser of the deal. Neither player was ever going to plY again for said team. So even if one now experiences success, it may be considered a "win" for that team, but still not a "loss" for the other

Man,

We are not talking about some 16 year old killing three people on a DUI he stole liquor to acquire... Are you saying Kassian deserves time in jail? The affluenza kid does.

I'm saying,

Some of these kids who get super hero status and a large paycheck are suspect to temptations that neither you or I can comprehend. I look back on the 23 year old version of myself and see a pompous righteous idiot. I shudder to think if I had money and fame. Maybe life skill/coaches are needed, but this problem is rampant. Ask anyone under 25 in a Canadian city who clubs. NHL'ers love them some blow and hookers.

I had a second and third chance.....I wish the same for everyone

No, I'm saying kids do stupid poop, and excusing it because he's got money and women and cars, etc. is enabling him. The only thing I said before your comment on "oh well he's rich" was that he was being super douchey. Am I wrong?

But I'm not saying "oh well...he's rich."

I'm saying, his next 6 months, now that he's out of rehab is going to determine the rest of his career and I'm going to cheer like hell for him.

His past as of now is his past. He served his time and his career has already been affected by it. Other players have done arguably worse and didn't miss a game (O'Reilly).

I'll be the first to condemn him if there's another incident.

The kids got proven skill and hopefully he hit rock bottom. Good Luck young man.

i think Edmonton won without question. they gave up a 30-year-old AHL goalie for a young talented guy who can contribute at some point and who has maybe been scared straight by his latest incident. for Montreal, Bergevin risked losing credibility with his players had Kassian been re-itroduced to the team, but this whole thing looks pretty bad on him.

geez, boo freakin hoo Henderson

what players say Kassian is a cancer? no one's a fan of what he did to Gagner. When he scores 15 and pushes Gazdic out of the lineup, you're gonna shut up in no time. Give it a rest

I've already said this before.
Edmonton wins this trade indirectly.
They have cleared up the goalie obstruction that hasn't allowed the young and upcoming goalies to completely experience the starter role, as well as being able to play more games and gain crucial experience.
On a side note, Eetu was recalled to the AHL just yesterday.

If Edmonton and Kassian doesn't pan out, and if Scrivens gets buried in the Minors after this, Edmonton still comes out on top since it has allowed us to develop our projects to a greater extent due to this trade.

However, I think that Edmonton has a better chance of getting a good player out of Kassian than Montreal getting the best out of Scrivens.
