He's 18th in the league in overall scoring, is winning almost 60% of his faceoffs, and is playing close to 22 minutes a night and has 6 total PIMs. So, yeah, pretty close.

He said player, so that includes Defensemen and goalies...lI can think of 5 players on the Blackhawks alone I would pay more.

What contract isn't boneheaded these days, especially for guys that are UFA's to be?

If you wait to sign only value contracts, you end up with a roster of filler 9 times out of 10.

I agree, good point.

Give me a break... We're saying this season he's playing like a top 15 player. Better than Crosby and Malkin. Obviously they are better players overall and have proven more but O'Riley is one point away from the 11th in the league in points and is doing well in every asset of the game.

Yeah you guys won the O'Rielly trade....land then proceeded to sign him to a bonehead contract
- Jeropotato

I would make that same trade every day of the week and resign him to whatever he wants too.

The Winnepeg and Colorado trades were 2 of the best trades made by Murray.

He got rid of dead weight and brought in Hockey players who can would help make a difference here.

Oh gee I don't know... Look at the stats and how well he's played this year. How all his goals have come late in the game's and how his clutch leadership and teaching of our young players has helped the team overall. Yeah I'd say he's playing like a top 15 player in the league right now.
- bluengold12

Yeah he's Hot right now, but that justify his pay check . ....and he is better than way more than 15 NHL players.

I think you nailed it with the this being as good as it gets line.

I only have one small problem with your wasted assets line and that is this: if you hold on to assets, waiting for that deal when you clearly pull the wool over the eyes of another GM, there is a great chance every GM sees right through you and you get no deal or a deal that is sorely lacking.

If Murray truly did not believe in Myers, Stafford, and Armia, then his thinking the entire time was likely one of I will take the best trade available for the items I believe are junk/not to my liking, and for all we know, there was no better return availble for the some of those parts.

Amazing to me how different the view would look if the trade was like below.

Jets get: Myers, Stafford, Armia, Lemiuex
Sabres get: Kane, Bogosian, 2015 or 2016 1st

- kingcong39

I agree, I just wonder if there was something better available to them at that time. It's very possible that there wasn't though. And he's been after Kane since his time in Ottawa.

I love the contract... and it doesnt start until next year, when the cap goes up. So how it is a bonehead contract is a mystery to me.

and that's your opinion. You're entitled to it. Just like he's entitled to feel that he is a top 15 player.

If you'd like to be nitpicky, he's a top 15 skater in the league right now. Kind of hard to compare goalies and skaters since they're so different.

Sure. At the 35 game mark, he's pretty hot.

Do you know what he makes this year? And you think his play does not call for that paycheck? And by Right now you mean 30+ games into a 82 game season.... its not a fluke 5 game stretch we are talking about here....

I was going to say that. Then didn't because at some point, it's not worth continuing to try and defend it to someone who in all reality needs to just bugger off.

He brings a lot more to the table than just points too. He's also turning 25, not 30 like most UFA signings.

Not really, he does a lot for them. Not the same as paying for a one dimensional winger or an over the hill centre.

In a world where Stamkos will make 11 mil against the cap, I don't think 7.5 for ROR is too much. In fact, in 3 years it may be a bargain. That's just the state of NHL these days

Kane is not the kind of player that is the focal point of a team but he gives versatility in our top 6. girgenson is the only other skilled foward we have that grinds and he looks less skilled this season and more grinder.

If YAK was putting up his numbers and playing like ROR he would be saying he is top 5 and that he deserves a bigger contract

Still worth it either way. The guy is an absolute beast. He's an every situation player. Totally worth every penny, IMO.

Easy Honkey, but you're right, probably wore out my welcome. I think Kane is garbage, and somehow that led into me degrading good players like Bogo and O'Rielly....my bad, just the way it flows sometimes
