After the game yesterday, it's clear to me that this team still lacks team speed. They aren't as slow as molasses like they were last year, but they need a couple more guys that can really move, particularly in Gionta's place.

Reinhart is getting knocked around at the level he did at the beginning of the year, and it was the direct reason Washington got its first goal.

They also need a bonafide sniper on the wing. Evander Kane isn't it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he's worthless, or that he even needs to be sent down, but he needs to figure out a way to protect himself a little bit more.

I really like McGinn and what he does, but his situation is tricky.

Part of me says he would be good to come back at $4M or so, especially with Gionta's contract expiring after next season, but another part of me says the only way they can bring him back is if they get rid of Moulson, somehow, some way, to be certain McGinn as a 3rd line LW at $4M doesn't cause issues in 2-3 years with their cap.

I like the idea of player X (draft?), Kane, McGinn, Foligno as the LW 1 through 4.

McGinn and Foligno signed as UFA's for $6M-$6.5M worth it?

If they can get rid of Moulson and have a cost controlled young player as the top line LW, yes, but if not, I don't think so.

Foligno at $2M as the 4th line LW? Not entirely sure or sold on that.

Reinhart did get ragdolled last night, quite a few times, but he wasn't even hit on the Caps first goal. His pass off the boards to Georges hit a Caps skate.

If you want to point to a reason we lost, look at the horrible giveaway by Ennis that led to the second goal and permitted Washington to play with a more comfortable lead.

Either way, I can't get too upset after that loss against the team that has the best winning percentage in the league. Lets see what the Sabres learn and how things go tomorrow night.

Zemgus doesn't need help. He's playing at a very high level just fine. He may not be showing up on the scoresheet, but he's doing a damn fine job of shutting down the top line of the opposition most nights. He's being asked to play a much different role this year and his offensive numbers have suffered because of it. That doesn't mean he's playing poorly though.

It could be a matter of perception, or "confirmation bias" as you like to put it, but it seemed to me like Reinhart heard footsteps on that pass. He looked panicked to me.

The Ennis giveaway is another bad one. However, I'm not convinced he's 100%.
