after your cowen chara trades, you follow up with Lehner is Rask elite and you wouldnt trade Turris for Toews or Lazar unless it was for Hall

A very fair deal would be: Cam Fowler FOR

A) 1 of Prince OR Puempel
B) 1 of Lazar OR White OR Chabot
C) 1 of Cowen OR Wiercioch

D) + 2nd round pick

That is a VERY fair deal.

If it was me, I'd go Lazar, Puempel, Cowen, 2nd but some sens fans may have a problem with that. Fowler is exactly what the Sens need however Chabot is looking very good and a veteran TOP 4D may be a cheaper and more logical solution. Cowen has been playing better as well but his decision making and play with the puck still lacks the poise.

A) Cowen's ceiling has always been high and was compared by many scouts to Hatcher / Chara like qualities. Injuries have plagued him - going back to his draft season. This is technically his 4th season - but he's only played 240 games (not even 3 seasons)

B) When the heck did I say I wouldn't trade Turris for Toews? If contracts are considered then perhaps I did - but I honestly don't remember. Considering he makes 1/3 his deal, most wouldn't argue. Let's see how long CHI contends with $21M committed to 2 players - it may work bc of the outstanding cap hit of DK and MH

C) Lazar to EDM for anyone not named Hall, RNH, LD, Nurse then yes. McD is an obvious when you have to save these posts. Lazar is going to be a great captain and playoff performer if healthy

Yak = disappointing performance so far for a 1st overall selection. Still definitely worth a first round pick, arguably a top 10 (considering how weak that draft year was).

MDC = complete and utter bust. Not worth a first or second round selection let alone a top 5 pick.

Truthfully it's a little premature to evaluate MDC so harshly, but with the way he has been trending lately I'll be surprised if he can put together any form of an NHL career.

Virtanen is a bust according to 90% of the people on this website.

I get other teams interest in Fowler. He can skate, he can dish the puck and hit the tape of his forwards, (unlike a lot of Ducks defensemen this year. ) , he's very good a QBing the power play and the best reason is he's signed to a great contract for this year and three more. These are also the reasons Cam won't be traded, unless it's a blockbuster type of deal. Since he was linked to Pittsburgh I think it would be Crosby or Malkin for Fowler. And before you start, I know this isn't going to happen, but neither is Ek's rumor either.
Some other Ducks fan suggested that Lindholm might be traded. This is even MORE laughable than Ek's rumor! If Murray moves any of his young defensemen it'll probably be Vatanen. Only because they have his replacement damn near ready to go in San Diego, Shea Theodore.

Imo there's a bit of a difference between a true bust and someone who might not have warranted such a high selection in hindsight.

Still early to tell but I think MDC is much more likely the be the prior and Virtanen/Yak the latter.

MDC getting cut from the Canadian WJ team has nothing to do with whether Yak is the biggest bust of a 1st overall pick in quite some time.
