he blew up the farm getting kane, bogo, ror and bubble boy between the pipes

he got his toys in eichel and reinhart

he got his coach

he got franson, and he picked his goalies

I don't see how he gets a pass if the team is a bottom feeder for a third straight year

Finally got a chance to read the blog. This might be my favorite part:

what Ristolainen accomplished last night was special, and he confirmed that to the gathered media. "Yeah, [it's] special," he told them. "It doesn't happen often, to me, so I'll take it. But we really need to win and we gotta find a way to get it together here."

This is why I think the results aren't that concerning right now. It's the mentality of the guys that are our current cornerstone players that speaks volumes of this team in comparison to the teams we've seen over the last 6 years or so.

What you listed alone is 7 new players plus a new coach. How does that not warrant some slack??

Nope. But I also wasn't around all week, so I wasn't sure if he was still MIA.

Not gonna lie, I may have had something to do with it. Not intentionally. But whatever. If he's going to be that sensitive maybe it's best he take some time away from here.

To put some things into perspective, since it's been talked about a lot lately.

On this day a year ago:

Buffalo was 15th in the east with 22 points (10-16-2)
- Carolina was last with 19 points (though a ROW 2 higher than Buffalo)

Buffalo had 48 goals scored and 85 against
- the next worst team in GF in the league was Carolina at 59

The standings are much closer this year than last. Division leaders have 33/34 points.
- Last season at this time they had 40/43, with a total of 13 teams above what the current division leaders have in points (meaning there are bigger signs of parity this season, and this season most teams have even played about 2 more games than they had by this time last year)

Counterpoint: The farm may not have been good enough to get anything better. Having said that, by bottom feeder do you mean 30th or bottom 5?

I think he gets a "pass" so long as the team and key individuals continue to get better. I mean even if they do finish 30th he'll be on the hot seat at worst.

I don't think anyone would fire Murray at seasons end. But I think if you look at it from a "We are much better than last year" perspective, it can be misleading.

We were intentionally bad the last 2 years. Improvement was inevitable. I think the question now becomes can we ascend to a cup contending team sooner than later. I'm not sure we will.

I think we have a couple known quantities in Eichel, O'Reilly, and Ristolainen. Which is good, but I have no clue how good Reinhart will end up being, I have no clue if we have a #1 goalie, a solid 3 defensemen behind Risto, enough goal scoring etc.

With the amount of moves made by Murray, and what he gave up, I wish we had more answers than questions

He gets a pass because that's how pro sports work. You've got your top tier teams who are in the swing of competing for championships and you've got everyone else. The everyone else is caught in the marketing loop of either "We're close to being hop tier, hang in there" or "We just rebuilt be patient". Both are ways to deflect responsibility from the GM's. When the team fails and the fans can no longer be fooled they team throws people under the bus and fires them. Starting the cycle over again, "We just rebuilt, be patient, don't give up your season tickets".

Do you really think this team without those moves does any better in the long run??

Sorry, but anyone who had high expectations for this season as a contender for the playoffs was off their rocker - even if you (not just you, anyone) show that "professionals" picked them to do well. It was too much to overcome those past seasons and such a huge roster and staff turnover.

This team is in no way better overall with Myers and Zadorov - the only NHL players given up (Stafford doesn't count as he was FA) and younger guys in the system that will need 2-5 years to develop.

team has had a lot of 1 goal games and more then a few empty netters scored on them

risto is on the ice for that, which dings his plus/minus a bit

I am more concerned that bogo does not have the same fire he had last year, and gorges game has come back down to earth on the blue line

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is a minus 10 this season and IMO deserves the Norris
Risto is a -5

- homiedclown

Bogo has to many brain farts, the Flames 2nd goal was a perfect example of one. If he just stays at home, they don't score. I was at the game last night and they interviewed Hamilton in the 2nd intermission and they asked him about the goal. He said "for some reason thier dman abandomed his position". Colbourne was contained in the corner by Eichel. No way our defenseman should be giving that up.

I wouldn't even fire him yet.
That is saying a lot coming from this man.
But as 365 said, he would be on notice and on my hot seat for certain.

its been 29 games. they have been trying to win for only 29 games. its a bunch of kids, and for some reason, 3 old men. there are holes on the roster, holes that most people saw before the season- left side d, right wing, and in goal. these are costing us games right now but it was not unreasonable to see what we had before making more moves to fix them.

can some explain to me how Risto was a minus 2 last night? he scored all of the goals. Even if he was out there for all 4, he should only be a minus 1.

I said this to my buddies before the season started, we will look a hell of a lot better this year but I just dont think the results will be there. Next year is where we see an improvement in the W column and challenge for a playoff spot.
