The worst one, which no one ever mentions is the McNabb to LA trade. We gave up McNabb, Jonathan Parker and 2 second round picks for Deslaurier and Fasching, both bottom six prospects. Even if Deslaurier and Fasching were in this next years draft with their current age and ability, they would be second round picks at best. Furthermore, bottom six forwards play much lesser roles than a top four dman, and are much easier to find in FA than a big, offensive and physical defenseman. The trade made no sense to me, it was like we were giving away McNabb for nothing. And McNabb is doing well in LA, a week or so ago I heard he was playing on top line woth Doughty, but I didn't hear the circumstances, it may have been necessity.

I will admit that I was wrong about ROR. He is a very good player, better than I expected. I don't think he has a scorers touch, but he is great in every other aspect. If he did have that ability to finish I think he would be one of the best players in the league, but still, he was probably worth what we payed in the trade if not more.

- SabresPanacea

That was a head scratcher.

Huh? He's only 3 points behind 10th in the entire NHL. He's currently tied for 27th in scoring on the 25th team in scoring. That's pretty damn good. There are only 2 guys who have more points than O'Reilly that are on teams that have scored fewer goals than the Sabres, Malkin and Giroux. He's been in on 35.7% percent of the Sabres goals this year. That's less than 1% less than Tarasenko's 36.5%. Does Tarasenko not have the scorer's touch? Any way you want to cut those numbers looks pretty good to me.

As the debate on GMTM continues, thanks HardHat for the spark...
I'm in the court of wanting to wait a bit longer to evaluate a bigger sample of moves.
I LOVE the ROR acquisition...would have liked to retain Big Z, but needed to give to get, and acquiring McGinn in that deal puts it over the top for me.
I like the Kane and Bogo deal as well, although I do admit each has under performed so far against my expectations. Kane is picking it up, hope he stays on the line with ROR and Reinhart though.
Lehner is a huge question mark...and so are the players available at 21. IF Lehner regains the form he developed winning the Calder Cup...I think that it was a good acquisition as well...but we wait...likely until next year...the rest of this season he will be trying to get back in physical shape AND in game shape (reaction, positioning, anticipation) since he will have been off for effectively a year straight.
As far as trading away the picks and young players...there are only so many contracts to go around...so they were viewed as "currency", and spent to acquire what Murray believes are key components to a core in order to speed the rebuild.

To those who think we should be further along since we gave up so much for the players we acquired, you are also forgetting the deadweight remaining on this team...and it is a lot of players....I won't name them as you know them...but the point is they will be replaced with the youngins in the pipeline...they aren't here yet so really, are your expectations too high...yes, I certainly think so. The rebuild is really 2 months old and Murray said he needs effectively 2 drafts to get the players...and he then needs more time for them to all become NHLers.

Stay patient and enjoy the ride up the elevator to the top floor...it is half the fun!

Also, I'm assuming we draft top 5 again in the 2016 draft ... So the question I pose to you is...what position do they go after?
For this question, let's assume two (2) scenarios:
1-Sabres have the 4th pick overall
2-Sabres have the 1st pick...what do you do with it...and as a result of what you do...are there related moves you make?

I'll go first (because I'm trying for the hatty!) Edit - damn you Schultzie!

1 - I try to land a top pairing Dman...would be great if he were a lefty to pair with Risto. That said, I don't force it...if he ain't there I go for the RW sniper...he needs to be a finisher though...we have quite a few high-end Hockey IQ guys...now I need the guy who finishes those openings created.

2 - I take Matthews period. I then dangle other prices parts to move up again and try to secure those I outlined in #1 above ... Including Reinhart or Girgenson, with Ennis ...would prefer to package Girgenson and Ennis with other parts in that attempt...keeping Samson for 3rd C...what a killer he would be there!

I'm sorry but not only should we not trade him....putting reinhart on the 3rd line is an unbelievable waste of his talents...the kid has the 3rd most goals on this team...and he's a rookie

Wow that was some back reading from yesterday lol. You kids were busy.

I'm not jumping off no bridge like some seem to be hell bent on doing. This season is what is, we knew there were big question marks on the D and goal and it's tough to sustain it over a long season. Never was a fan of Chad Johnson carrying the load and if memory serves correctly, Kari Ramo was on waivers and Murray should have grabbed him. He blew that one.

Gotta give these trades some time to judge them accurately but at face value, the Lenner trade will haunt Murray. Colin White is tearing it up.

If it's 1 (highly doubt we get that) you go for the obvious and get Matthews. If you're picking 2-4 and you get Chychrun or Tkachuk. My pick would go to Chychrun, he is exactly what we need.

Murray's worst move won't end up being a trade. It will be picking Sam Reinhart over a superstar in Draisaitl. Another 4 point game

in many ways Murray is acting like a rookie GM

the table was setup nice for him, with 3 moves all that wiggle room he had is gone

after saying that with risto, eichel, ror, skunk, girgens you have a nice core to build around but there are many holes still to make this an upper tier team in the years to come

At the very least there is a "real" core to work with this time. We're not just passing off Roy as a #1C and Vanek as a franchise guy. Should in theory make building the supporting cast a little easier.

Samson is going to be a Super star as well . Let's come back in 3 to 4 years and judge. God you just have turned so negative. Used to enjoy reading your posts. Now it is like a car crash . You don't want too look but you are drawn to looking at it to see how bad it is.
