That was by design though.
Corey Pronman put out an interesting stat on Steven Stamkos.
Based on his WAR rating (wins above replacement) if you were to sign Stamkos, you are only getting 2-3 more wins in the regular season.
So let's factor that in for Eichel, say he goes from good to superstar, that's about 2-3 wins, same with Reinhart and Risto.
There development isn't close to enough to make us contenders. Murray needs to add a few pieces, and he now has pretty bare cupboards - sbroads24
The cupboards aren't bare, but in order to make a move or two, they would be and that's the problem. At this point in the game, patience is key. That's not to say that there aren't some changes that need to be made. I think we need to let this season play out though and not make knee jerk moves.

with the youth they have this season, they shouldn't have been considered contenders to begin with...that said, a top-pairing left-handed d-man wouldn't hurt...neither would a top-line rw, and that would include ennis playing at that level...something he might be capable of
And Murray made a lot of moves and gave away a lot of assets for this team to "still stink" as bad as it does.
Right or wrong?
Or does Murray keep getting a pass?
An honest question. - BuffaloHardHat
That's a tough question to answer. I'll say this, on draft day when he went bonkers trading picks away I was pissed. I needed to be talked off the ledge. Getting O'Reilly signed helped me feel better. But I did not feel compelled to bring in anyone else as I thought we would end up in the same boat we are in anyways.
In closing, it's too soon to judge. But I'm sick of being in situations where the GM make controversial moves and were always in limbo saying "It's too soon to judge".
Buffalo is one point from being the worst team in the league, again.
So I guess it's all in how you look at things.
For what Murray gave up, we should be better than 1 point from being the armpit of the league once again. - BuffaloHardHat
one point out of 24th...they also played the defending eastern conference champs four times the top two teams in the west (at the time) two times each, plus Vancouver twice and Nashville twice, both of whom are presently in the top three in their divisions..

C'mon Mike.
And we should be happy with being one point out of 24th?
You're better than that.
Like I said, perhaps its just my frustration in its totality with both of our cities sport franchises fighting for whom can out do the other at being the most inept from year to year.
I'm not getting any younger ya know.
I'm fully expecting the Bills to choke this weekend as well because, it's what happens here in Buffalo.
