I agree with you...but my point is really that the bad contracts are not what is keeping the team from the next level. We say it is "waiting to be out from under the bad contracts" but really it is waiting for our defensive prospects to be NHL contributers

have to agree here. putting Jake w/ a slug like VV is about the only major issue i've had w/ Hak. PEB, ok he's passable skill-wise, but like Friedman said, Jake's game is "disintegrating" right now.

Maybe when Gagner gets back, put him @ LW w/ those 2 and things make more sense.

- isaiah520

Vandevelde is not a slug. He is a solid 4th line role player at Wing, who is also good on the PK. It's not his fault the coach is playing him 15 minutes a game or whatever.

I hope Gagner rarely plays.

VDV is a solid, suppotive team player. You need guys like him. The only problem is our team is basically built off of supportive players

I don't think he has a history of elite play. if he wasn't signed I think it is likely they would have trade him imo. I like jake I hope he turns it around.

in regards to mason its also possible he reverts back to his last few years in Columbus as well no?

- rinaldo

Not including this year, his last 3 seasons Jake has 189 points in 212 games. thats pretty damn good

True, but I've never seen a coach in any sport with a .204 career winning % given a contract extension. The NBA has to step in and do something with the Sixers. It's boderline criminal what they are doing.

Colangelo's there now -- he's not going to put with what they've been doing.

He's just not going to let them lose like this. What they have been doing hasn't worked, and it's a mockery of competition and professional athletics.

It's funny. In life, you can always say, "We've got a plan. Here's our plan. We knew it was going to be like this."

But that doesn't make it OK. Maybe you've got a poop plan. Maybe you're not smart enough to come up with a better plan.

In the real world, the corporate world, guys get relieved of their duties because they had plans that were poop. You don't just get to say "we had a plan" when your plan is poop.

What they should do next, is fire Hinkie, and bring in Colangelo's son.

His son was a mess for the Raptors for most of his tenure. They were exactly what the Sixers have been trying to avoid: good enough to squeak in every so often, not good enough to win any series. Then miss the playoffs most years. That would be awful for the Sixers. By the way, he's openly admitted to tanking for the Raptors after he was let go. That should offend your sensibilities as much as Hinkie.

2 time NBA executive of the year. He would be under his Father, not running the entire show. Huge upgrade from Hinkie

If you want the Sixers to become a treadmill franchise like the Raptors, then he's your man.

That's wonderful that he was named that fancy honor for two seperate seasons in an almost 20 year GM career. Unfortunately his record is spotty in its entirety. His Phoenix years were awful -- until right at the end when he signed Steve Nash (who he'd traded previously) and drafted Stoudemire. He won EoY that year. He then left for Toronto where he drafted a gigantic bust number one, made shoddy deal after deal, and his team NEVER won a playoff series. In fact they finished over .500 once -- his first season before his stamp was really on the team. He won EoY that year. If that's what you want...goodie.

He took over a team that basically had no choice but to go full rebuild. I think he realizes that to build a contender you need a superstar, and since it's extremely hard to sign or trade for one, he's trying to tank for one and then expecting to build pretty quickly around that player with the youth he's adding.

Even if you loathe Hinkie, which you unabashedly do, Colangelo had 19 years of mediocrity and awful managing to Hinkie's 2. Which were planned this way. Colangelo did it the honorable old fashioned way -- just being a bad GM. Even if you want Hinkie replaced, which you unabashedly do, that's getting rid of one bad and replacing it with another. Yay another decade of mediocrity

Didn't answer the question. I'll answer it for you, not much, and it doesn't look like that is going to change anytime soon.
