Sugar is other devil. It's funny, the wife and I read every label at the grocery store and it's shocking how much of it is added to food these days.
I was never fat or anything, but my PCP said I could stand to lose 10 or 15 lbs. I lost that in a month.
Of course the down side is I'm STARVING all the time. So.... - madmike71
When I started getting serious about what I ate, it blew my mind how much sodium is in food when reading labels. I travel a lot for work and if I have a crappy meal I instantly feel my finger swell up and have to take my ring off. Normally it just slides right on. But yeah sugar is a killer. |

Two months is a laughably small sample size. Since then, he's been figured out. I get that there have been injuries, but Disco managed to make his team play well at least during the regular season despite them and he's not a great coach by any stretch. Like somebody said, why are coaches so stubborn with their systems and insist that they need round pegs to match up with their round holes when they have a team full of square pegs? Why not just make square holes? That's what a competent coach would do. MJ has not shown any effort into doing that, and that is why I have no faith. The defense is lack luster and we wouldn't be cup favorites, but a new coach would at least give us a shot. - Victoro311
Which is why making a trade right now seems stupid to me. Why trade a solid asset like Hornqvist when there's a pretty good chance that this team's performance would skyrocket with a new coach?
It would make me sick to see good players on good deals leave town, then the team still sucks, then the Penguins fire him, and then the team instantly looks better but isn't as good because they made a stupid and premature trade.
It's just a continuation of what they're doing with the lines - shuffling the deck when the problems are deeper than that. |

Hardnosed, we don't always agree, but when we do we're definitely right. |

Is anyone talking about +/- aside from you? - Johnny Wrath
I've compared plus/minus to Corsi to justify my statement, you are ignoring the comparison to defend yours!
Now you just accused me of making a straw man argument & you go & do that exact same thing by your response above!
Well done!! |

I say "huh?" because you are trying to say that advanced statistics are flawed, but yet 7 of the last 10 Stanley Cup winners were among the leading teams in 5v5 CF, 6 of those 7 were top 5, only last years Hawks were no. 6. Three of those 6 teams were no. 1. Sure, teams like the Canes, Bruins, and Pens bucked that trend, but it is safe to say that there is a trend that the teams at the top of the advanced stats (not just Corsi, but all the others when taken into account) tend to be more successful than the ones that do not. And I understand I only chose corsi, but when you look at Corsi, Fenwick, PDO, Zone Entires, Zone Starts, Goal Differential, Faceoffs, Points, etc. as different "ingredients" to the "recipe for success" they tend to compliment each other to provide people/teams/front office with extremely helpful analytic tools to build their team with. BUT if you look at one advanced statistic as the end all-be all stat, and use JUST THAT to form your team... of course its going to be flawed, they are never meant to be used as THE tool, but only AN OPTION of tools. You gonna build a house with just a drill? No, you're gonna use a hammer, a level, a drill, drywall, etc. etc. etc... - j.boyd919
So in all that what you are saying is that 3 of the last 10 winners were top in advanced stats?? |

Still waiting homie - j.boyd919
Waiting for talent analysis?
First & foremost you watch what players do with or without whatever object they're playing with - this case the puck.
Shots, shots that are genuine chances, assists, assists to shots that you will have to watch games for. Goals scored, defence techniques again on players & away from players. All this would be recent stats & observations. Speed, & ability evaluations.
Who these players play with & the different abilities they have compared to what a team - your team, needs. Need D don't look for a LW!
That's just a start, of course better more knowledgable people than me that will do better things.
One thing I wouldn't do is rely on historical data, or put much faith in a statistic that totals events without even participation or any stat evolved from that!!
How's that Boydy Boy for a start?? |

Ill give Pouliot/Clendening their opportunity to shine, see if Sprong can play top 6, then re-evaluate.
Though were likely to wake up tomorrow and see all that cap space used on Mark Fayne...
