Taking your questions for today's Q & A about the Leafs, who are playing better but are one point out of 30th place in the NHL standings.

Jason Blake.

/DoubleDown's argument.

And Sergei Berlin and Kessel for that matter with the wrist shots from outside the circles.

At the end of the day, it's about shots from the slot area or chances around the net that make a difference.

Any chance Garrett Sparks could win 3 or his first 4 last year?

Zero IMO

If Bernier, Smith and Schneider have taught us anything this season. ALL shots are quality scoring chances

Hypothetical, but I'd like to know the general consensus.

Say a team other than Arizona wins the lottery. Doesn't have to be the Leafs necessarily, but this is the Leaf thread so it will be in this situation. So the Leafs hold the 1st overall pick, and the Coyotes hold a pick somewhere between 5-10, which is looking probable. If the Coyotes really value the idea of an Arizona born kid to sell to the market and grow the fan base, which isn't an unreasonable thought, would you trade Matthews to them? From what I understand Matthews is in the same company as Jack Eichel. What's fair value for that pick? My immediate thought is Strome and Arizona's 1st round pick. Sounds like a lot, but then I think some would argue you could ask for more. Assigning value to a high profile prospect is difficult.

can't say i agree with that. putting more pucks on net is a pretty good indicator that you have the puck more. and even if it's not, you're still doing more with it. i don't see how keeping the puck on your stick for long periods of time proves anything. in today's NHL is you have the puck on your stick for more than a few seconds, you're nowhere near the net.
- DoubleDown

the correlation between shot attempts and actual time with the puck is very close.

There is no fair value in that situation. The Coyotes would have to over pay in this fantasy world.

I'd imagine Arizona would rather keep Strome and pick 4th or so (someone like Tkachuk it Puljujarvi)

At the same time, shooting the puck from anywhere and everywhere because you're down by 2 or 3 goals early in the game doesn't indicate that you played better than the opposing team.

no but the stats we see are generally score adjusted
