Predicting goalies is probably the most difficult thing to do for NHL players. they are absolute unknowns. I dont know how you can think you have some knowledge on who is done, who is 100% sure future top15 goalie and who is a backup.

Now Reimer is a great backup you say.. he was done not that long ago as an NHL goalie according to many. All he has done this season is be one of the best in the NHL.

Even from year to year. How good is Rinne? Cory Crawford? ....metrics for goalies are tough.

Im still a reimer fan. While he's definitely had a couple rough seasons but you could argue that the gionta hit in game 1 of whatever season that was put him behind the 8 ball and screwed him over... since then its like the leafs have looked for every possible reason to not put him as the starter. I still think he could be a starter. This season especially he's looked waaaay better technically.

I would stop dreaming about the leafs getting either Vas. or Gibson. TB will be looking to move on from Bishop and his 6 mil...he is thier next in line and can be cost controlled better..esp when they have some big RFA/UFA players coming up

Well I agree with you that the window of opportunity to get a trade done on these twogoalies is closing down rapidly... Unless one of them has a bad streak and fall out of grace at their teams, it will be harder and harder to trade for them.

Next target in line could be Ilya Samsonov.. (Holtby being only 26y old makes him potentially available). Goalies need time until they're 22-24y old though, so Leafs should ideally look (back) at 2010-2013 drafts for their future goalies.

Most importantly 18 yr old boys just want to 'get wit' 16/17 yr old girls. Marner's not ready for the heaps of 'of-age' talent that would come his way once he hits the NHL. You can't rush that stuff man ....

But yes, up until this season, he was an average back up. But reimer has improved his technical play alot over the summer, he's looked much better this year. I've liked his play this season.
Is he a full time starter? dunno.
Lets play out the season and see.

The Penguins issue is trading first rounders the last decade. Not Corsi.

I'd rather give up a 1st rounder + pick/player for Samsonov / Vasilevskiy / Gibson and have Reimer sharing starting duties for next two years before any of these guys take over as a legit top10 NHL starting goalie.
