At draft, when you know what position you're going to pick, and it's a 10-20ovr pick, to get Gibson or Vasilevskiy for a 11th-20th overall pick + some mid-level player or pick would be a great deal for the Leafs.
Bernier's done.
Reimer is a great backup, but he needs games to get to his best level; he's not a top20 starting goalie.
Sparks looks like a decent backup goalie as well; to me it seems he's giving up way too many rebounds though which will eventually result in more goals against.
If you can get a almost 100% sure future top15 goalie (which Gibson and Vasilevskiy) seem to be, Leafs should not doubt to do so.
When Bobrovsky was available at Philadelphia, I suggested on the boards to get him - most in here were against the idea of giving up Reimer for him... - MaximusAurelius
I agree that Vasilevskiy looks to be as much of a sure thing as you can have with a goalie prospect. And to pre-empt the Pogge card that someone's going to play, Vasilevskiy has already shown glimpses of excellence at the AHL and NHL levels. Pogge was never anything but complete poop as a pro.

Fair enough - I meant to say in Toronto though.
I seriously don't think he has a future at this organization. |

Then I may be worried what he sees in him. Not dominating, no improvement from last year. Im not sold.
Imthink the scouts are starting to drop him in the rankings. - burn

How nice of you to point out. Any other suggestions/proclamations you've made over the last couple of years that didn't work out so well? - The Law
sure..
Pre season I was quite convinced Marner would make the Maple Leafs team this year
I still think it was a bad choice to leave him in OHL by the way.
And I thought Phaneuf was a 3rd line D-man.
He's proven to be a correct #3 / #4 D-man on the Leafs with less playing time. |

its the right move
dominate a league, be a team leader, play in the WJC as a core player.
there is more to learn when it comes to hockey than flat out skill set.
not to mention he wasnt very good against full grown men in preseason.. had his moments.. but was too easily pushed off the puck |

Yup, you gotta have the skills to go with the size or else you end up with SDS (alternatively known as LSS Luke Schenn Syndrome) |

Giving him the opportunity to grow more into man, captain the Knights to the Mem Cup, lead the U20 team to glory and bring all that growth and experience to camp next year is a bad thing?
edit: you win this round, Dozzer. |

Predicting goalies is probably the most difficult thing to do for NHL players. they are absolute unknowns. I dont know how you can think you have some knowledge on who is done, who is 100% sure future top15 goalie and who is a backup.
Now Reimer is a great backup you say.. he was done not that long ago as an NHL goalie according to many. All he has done this season is be one of the best in the NHL.

Most importantly 18 yr old boys just want to 'get wit' 16/17 yr old girls. Marner's not ready for the heaps of 'of-age' talent that would come his way once he hits the NHL. You can't rush that stuff man .... |

I've always liked Reimer.
Never said he was a top goalie, but in general has been quite good for Leafs - difficulty he had was that the D did not support him well enough (see game 7 against Boston; loss was not on him, but on D imo - a goalie's confidence gets a serious test though from such a loss). |

I would stop dreaming about the leafs getting either Vas. or Gibson. TB will be looking to move on from Bishop and his 6 mil...he is thier next in line and can be cost controlled better..esp when they have some big RFA/UFA players coming up |

Stay the course.. Trade Reimer if Sparks looks like a decent option later in the season.

I used to hope the leafs traded for Markstrom .. I dont do that anymore. goalies are a black box mystery prize.

Speaking of Stamkos, he "Liked" another "Stamkos to Leafs" Story yesterday on his official account. |
