They could probably afford to lose him, tbh... Hedman + dat depth.

If they decide they don't want to sink that much cap-space into one player, you have to believe that they could get a veritable king's ransom for him in a trade.

A lot Tampa fans don't think he's worth $10m a year, and Yzerman must agree since he's not signed.

Or Stamkos wants $11m which is crazy with the cap stagnating.

Yeah but he's their franchise player (IMHO!) and with Kane and Toes signing for $10.5 mil, that's basically the starting point.

It has nothing to do with any of that. Likely an injury or bug.
- jak521

Probably.

But it is fun to think that maybe he has had enough and just wants to go home.

And through their tears
Some say he farmed his best in younger years
But he'd have said that roots grow stronger
If only he could hear

It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain.

He was just quoted last week saying he plans to fulfill his whole contract and that retirement hasn't crossed his mind though.

And Chip Kelly said he wasn't leaving Oregon and then left for Philly a couple weeks later.

Athletes and coaches lie.

Nah, just takes 1 crazy GM/team to make it happen for them... and I really believe there's probably more like a handful of teams that would blow poop up for the chance to lock up Stamkos. Talking decent destinations here too, not Columbus or Florida.

Thank god for Hexy, because I'd otherwise be scared the Flyers would be among them.

- Tomahawk

Stating that there are factors that will limit his trade market, doesn't mean that he can't be traded.

Some teams wouldn't have to blow anything up.

Toronto.

If they decide to trade him (I doubt it) they pretty much have to trade him to a team he dictates and where he's willing to resign. You'd think they'd pretty much have an agreement in place as far as years and money.

Sixers may very welll contend before the flyers. Sixers have some good young pieces in place, lots of assets in 1st rd picks the next 2 years, saric is overseas coming next year, and plenty of cap space. getting that guy in free agency will be key to get them rolling. They will overpay and have space to do it. can make trades as well to turn it around real quick if that is the route they want to go.

But weren't there things factoring his sudden departure like sanctions the school was rumored to be potentially facing?

They could give Stamkos that $3 mil but they would still have a problem signing Kucherov, Paquette, Killorn, Brown, and most importantly, Coburn

They need to overpay for some Allstar with years of experience. Someone with experience needs to lead this youngins

I find it hilarious that the same people who are very pessimistic about the Flyers are so optimistic about the Sixers. I am not necessarily pointing at you, but you mentioned it and I see it a lot

Convinced him? LTIR isn't somewhere you put a player because he has no value. There has to be a documented and legitimate injury.
- MJL

He has had a history of back issues that may have recurred including a previous fracture. Seeing something on an X ray or MRI could certainly raise an issue even if its just suspected, especially if the player reports pain. And once the player speaks out about pain or discomfort.....

You know like the brain cloud Tom Hanks was told he had in Joe versus the Volcano.....

you are correct...they have no vets on the team...that's by choice and a somewhat odd one to me.

Cap probably aint' going up by $3M tho... Ellliott Friedman had some owners tell him that they were currently budgeting for ~$1M.

Key to being a legit contender in the NBA:

Acquire 1 really good player via free agency or the draft

That is all. It's a lot more difficult in hockey.

I think they are better poised to turn it around despite their sad sack record the last few years....doesn't mean they will and they could flounder for years still.

just looking at the "assets" it is very appealing.

they can go out and get guys via free agency to turn it around.the flyers cant imo.

I could see him going to Toronto if Tampa can't re sign him. He'd be worshipped in Toronto but they'd have to give up serious yound assets to get him. I'm sure max salary wouldn't bother TO though.
