For the sake of the severe boredom I have at work, IF Stamkos were to hit free agency this summer, would you want Philly to take a run at him? Would you trade Jake or G to make room for him?
- arichardson22

No, not both of them. You'd just be rearranging your depth problem, as you never get equal value

I would want him but I think other teams have more valuable pieces that they can afford to lose.

People in Boston were saying the same thing about a Phil Kessel trade.

Never say never.

Wouldn't that, more or less, close Tampa's window slightly?

They could probably afford to lose him, tbh... Hedman + dat depth.

If they decide they don't want to sink that much cap-space into one player, you have to believe that they could get a veritable king's ransom for him in a trade.

I agree that there's no way TB just lets him walk without getting something for him, but let's keep in mind that he's looking a long term deal of around 10M AAV, so that is going to limit his trade value somewhat. For example, how much would a team like Chicago give up for him in a trade, knowing that they can't re-sign him?

Maybe he's got a more serious back problem and going on LTIR until his contract expires?
- Hextall271

Maybe they convinced him hes going on LTIR to clear cap space since he has no other value except by disappearing slowly into the sunset, too slow for everyone here!

Convinced him? LTIR isn't somewhere you put a player because he has no value. There has to be a documented and legitimate injury.

Trade cost would be so high that no team could feasibly pursue it w/o a guarantee that he'd re-sign there, right?

But what does that trade market look like?

Who is giving up a king's ransom for a guy they may not be able to sign?

Good point, which further limits his trade market. I think TB is in a bit of a pickle if they can't or are unwilling to re-sign him.

If they weren't going to re-sign him, the opportunity to deal him and get more equitable value seems to have passed.

At this point, if they deal him, I don't even know what they could reasonably get back, given Stamkos' contractual uncertainty.

Nah, just takes 1 crazy GM/team to make it happen for them... and I really believe there's probably more like a handful of teams that would blow poop up for the chance to lock up Stamkos. Talking decent destinations here too, not Columbus or Florida.

Thank god for Hexy, because I'd otherwise be scared the Flyers would be among them.

Anyone read the CSN Philly article about Vinny not skating and an update later? Wonder if this thing could be coming to an end? Probably not but fun to think maybe he just retires.

It has nothing to do with any of that. Likely an injury or bug.
