3.75 for this year and next. I am 99% sure his contract is not 35+, which means he could actually retire without cap penalties for the Pens...I am not sure if you can just retire mid season and have the contract come off though. either way...good amount of cap relief

"Great?" I'd say one superstar and one good player.
- jmatchett383

Out of the 9 two of the teams would fit that criteria.

The token Pistons and Houston.

Yes, GMs and coaches. I meant other types of executives.
- Scoob

Not sure what you are asking...Yes there are other types of executives that change teams. The problem with the rule was that it was put in place for teams to not hire an executive from another team (letting teams retain their executives) without compensating them, yet was used on guys the team didnt want around anyway

Green might be a top 10 player right now because of his versatility. He's amazing. Having a guy who can guard centers, but play like a guard on offense is every coaches wet dream.
- PhillySportsGuy

No denying that, but I was speaking strictly that team that won. Not taking anything away from Green, I just included Iggy because of the MVP and all.

But that is not the reality at all..

The idea in any sport is to win it all. Like I said earlier, over the past 33 years only 9 different teams have won a championship.

Those teams:
Lakers (KAJ, Magic, Kobe, Shaq)
Spurs (Robinson, Duncan, Parker)
Heat (Shaq, Mourning, Wade, Lebron)
Celtics (Bird, Walton, Parish, McHale, Ainge)
Rockets (Olajuwon, Thorpe, Maxwell)
Pistons (Dumars, Laimbeer, Thomas, Ben and Sheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton)
Bulls (Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Grant, Salley, etc)
Mavericks (Nowitzki, Kidd)
Warriors (Curry, Thompson, Iguodala)

In order to win it all, you need to pretty much have 2-3 great players.

- jak521

I understand that. But how many of those players were drafted in the top 5? Use the Warriors for examples.

Which player did they tank for? Which player did they draft in the top 5?

If the Sixers wanted to, they could easily jump to 35 wins next season. In your eyes that would look like progress. In reality, it just sets the team back further. That's life in the NBA.
- PhillySportsGuy

Again, I disagree. If you're doing that with a young roster, with some veteran support, it absolutely is progress. Unless of course you think the Sixers are going to go from 10-72 one year, to contending for the NBA title the following year.

I don;t believe the Sixers have a foundational piece yet, so bumping them to 35 wins won't really help them long term

I don't think Mourning was great, same for all of the Bulls outside of the big 2 (when Jordan disappeared, all of those "great" players didn't win). I don't think Jason Kidd was near his best with Dallas, Iguodala was good, and I don't know who Thompson is.

I think that "great" is a subjective term. When you're putting Iguodala in the same class as KAJ, you need some separation.

What I don't understand is how it took Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler 4-5 years to become all stars, but you can make declarative statements about Covington and Grant after they've played 80 NBA games. Neither of them will be as good as Leonard or Butler (they are both legit top 10 players), but to say they can't develop into good starters is a bit ridiculous.
- PhillySportsGuy

then maybe they prove me wrong. I just don't see the skill set that shows they will be anything more then average if best players.

Leonard and Butler were elite perimeter defenders and then worked on the offensive game and got it to where it is. I don't see that from the sixers guys.

Dequandra Fristin has been tearing it up lately, I'd expect he would be on their radar at the draft

Well, he would certainly fit into their mold of drafting players with ridiculous names.

Maybe they can scout the following players as well:

So what are all the moves that you claimed were working out? How many top draft picks have the Sixers had? Maybe they have to tank the tank?

You should go back and look at Butler and Leonards numbers during their first couple seasons. They didn't just break in and light the world on fire. The only players who do that are HOFers

The only top 5 pick they've had is Okafor and he definitely looks like a guy who could make future all star games. Embiid is the other, but he hasnt played. They've had 1 top 5 pick play and he looks good after 20 games, but this whole thing has been a mistake!!!! If only we signed Jameer Nelson and Elton Brand everything would be just fine!!!
