Agreed.

I'm just not sold on trading prospects and multiple picks along with a top 6 forward and a dman. Too much for my blood.

You're right, that's a lot to give up for one guy. Maybe 5 guys in the league worth that kind of offer. One of them is already here, the other is the player we'd be trading for.

I like Stamkos, great player. But part of the reason there's even talk of him leaving Tampa is because he isn't "the guy" for Tampa anymore (or at least last year in the playoffs). In acquiring him, we'd have to give the reins over to him, and we already have too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to alphas. Not to mention that his best years are most likely behind him or his contract demands. Someone will play him long term for what he did, not for what he will do and it will bite them in the ass.

Are you kidding me? It was a solid Hockey play, you sound like your typical Penguins fan.

We will turn into Pittsburgh 2.0. A few great players, and 0 depth, and an awful farm system.

Granted, I'll take the 1 cup they have recently

Ummm....you think at his age he's over the hill? Uh...ok....and who are the Alphas that would outshine Stammer on the Sabres? Eichel in a few years, sure....but that's it Bubba.

Sure, but that's the price you pay. All this talk about fines and suspensions for a wee bit of physicality is nauseating.

As in he likely won't score 50-60 goals or score 90+ points. He's still elite but he'll get paid like that player that he was a few years ago. That broken leg seemed to really slow his career down.

If Stamkos said he'd sign with the Sabres I'd offer Reinhart straight up and call it a day.

Yeah, I guess....he hasn't been a point per game player yet this year , nor was he last year.

We're pretty much hitched to Eichel and O'Reilly as the leaders of our offense, or "the guys" for a long time. Stamkos would be a great addition but I think in the long term it would hurt us. We can't be paying O'Reilly 7.5m, Stamkos 9-10m, and what ever Eichel gets in his next contact, it's too much to be tied into too few players.

Well no poop, what idiot wouldn't? Of course...it would depend on what he wanted for salary.

You don't think O'Rielly's contract is the issue there?

That will not be popular here and he'll want I don't know 9-10 mil a year

It's highly unlikely Reinhart will ever be worthy of sniffing Stammers jock in the next 5-7 years....anyone who says otherwise is delusional. It's not like he's Leon Draisaitl or anything.

This.
I would prefer to continue to build through the draft and address other needs via FA.
Dismantling the team for one player, albeit a great one,is too costly for me.

The smart teams that have space will go after him in free agency if he gets there. Best bet: Nashville. They got cash and he would be a great fit.

If he hits FA it's Toronto and everyone else a distant 2nd.

I would trade for Stamkos just to piss off Leafs fans. Oh just seeing the Youtube videos filled with anguish would be a site to see.

History shows most FA acquisition just doesn't work out that great...many for the reasons related to acquiring Stamkos...the cost is just to high.
IMO that is the problem here. Getting him depletes your pipeline and opens other holes.
I would rather build through the draft...and fill lesser roles through trades and FAs as needed.
That said, Sabres sure could use a sniper of his pedigree.
