Thought Guhle might of had a shot after his pre-season/camp performance. - CoHo_to_B-Lo
Not sure but I believe he had a bit of a letdown in his game after he was cut before he began picking it up again. |

sabre prospect news
Hudson Fasching has improved his play a bit
4 goals, 4 helpers in 11 games so far for Minnesota
Cal Petersen is playing about the same as last year 2.55 gaa .913 save %
Sean Malone (watch out for him) 5 points in 6 games for Harvard
Anthony Florentino has 5 points in ten games for Providence
Gustav Possler has 12 points in 23 games and should be ready to cross the Atlantic next season
Jonas Johansson has better numbers this season in net for Almtuna IS
Vaclav Karabacek is also producing at a higher level in his second season with Baie-Comeau Drakkarm 15 points in 22 games (last year 15 points in 28 games)
that's all I got - homiedclown
You left out the 3 best players this year. Martin and Estephan are excelling in the WHL and Cornel went on an absolute tear this month in the OHL. Karabacek having 15 points in 22 games in the Q is basically nothing (although in his defence he plays for quite possibly the worst team in the CHL) |

Brain fart.
Still, the amount of Sabres prospects not on the Canadian short list over the years does concern me a bit. - buffalofan19
They went quite some time without drafting a canadian during the early pegula years (1st/2nd round talent anyways) and recently sold off two first rounders.
2011-Armia, no 2nd rounder
2012-Grigs, Girgs and McCabe
2013-Risto, Zads and Compher
High 2nd rounder in 2014 is american and we didn't pick till 51 in this years draft.

check out the schedule for our next 10 games, all are definitely winnable, could put us in a nice position come mid-season. |

Cornel should be dominating at his age in the OHL. I've sort of written off Karabacek, but Martin and Estephan are intriguing |

Estephan's pretty good but it's hard to tell if it's him or his team that's making him look good.
Big fan of Martin though, curious to see how he does now that he's on a playoff bound team. |

Yup, it's what gave Chicago an edge over everyone. Don't have to overpay to keep bottom 6 talent when there's someone on an ELC ready to take his place. |

Chicago also drafted top 6 players as well though. Best organization in the league |

maybe 5 years ago, but after the 2009 draft, they only have the saad trade and shaw to show for 6 years of drafting at the big level, Teravainen as well
in a cap era, they should have been able to plug a few holes IMO

aside from the ducks stinking this year, I have really liked what they have done with prospects over the last 5 years

Since the 2008 & 2009 drafts where they got Toews and Kane, they have drafted 3 top 6 players by my count, and one of them never played for the team in Kevin Hayes (if you choose to count him as a top 6 player).
Saad was a major score in the in the 2nd round in 2011.
Teuvo Teravainen was their other top 6 player pick, but he is more of a 2nd/3rd line player at this point even though it is still early in his career. |

The trio of Anthony Florentino, Brycen Martin, and Brendan Guhle could all be very good picks that really bolster the Sabres roster in the coming years when they are ready to be a strong playoff team.
The best part is 2 of them are lefties. |

At season's end do we use the first rounder on a scoring winger or a defenseman? What is the bigger need that can be filled with that pick?
I'm leaning towards winger since it shouldn't take as long to develop (hopefully) but unless you are picking near the top again anyone there is going to need some development time. |

Wonder if the NHL will take steps to make sure Lioneater does not get into the allstar game this year |

Hitting on 2 when you are routinely drafting low or have no first at all is pretty good.
The Sabres drafted Ennis, and Girgensons if you even consider him a top 6 player right now.
I don't count Eichel or Reinhart as they are the Toews and Kane |

I don't believe they're doing the fan voting this year. The entire thing has been overhauled. |

Enjoyed the blog by the way. Really like how you put last month's stats next to it and last years as well.
Those stats last year though... My lord... 30th in shots for, 30th in shots against, 30th in goals for, 30th in goals against, -180 goals against. I keep trying to forget but wow that's horrendous. |

if they do that, they should also take steps to ensure Crosby doesn't get in....since his 5 goals and 10 assts. are far from All Star material |
