That Seems like a massive over-payment to me. Like Hamonic for Johansen seems like a reasonable trade, one for one. Why would NY have to also include a first and Okposo?

Wow Johansen for Hamonic straight up, and you have a blog here....

Do you think before you blog? Seriously... This ranks up there with one of the dumbest things I have ever read in regards to hockey rumours.

one of the things that came out recently is that according to Isles beat reporter Arthur Staple is that Garth Snow has let it be known that the GM who leaked the info about Hamonic's request would no longer be considered....This particular bit of gamesmanship which is a breach of General Manager etiquette that few endorse has put a chill on negotiations.

Both Hamonic and his agent have assured Garth Snow that they were not the Source of the leak. So obviously Snow is doing his due diligence through back chanels here trying to find out from other GM's who it was. this would necessitate a step back in negotiations, until the leak is dealt with one way or another. initially the thought was that the leak was out of Edmonton but I find that doubtful since Chiarelli and Snow known to be close...I doubt Chiarelli would do something that he has to know would tick Snow off....

my money is on one of Edmonton's competitors just to throw a monkey wrench into any negotiations....Teams are afraid of the Oilers finally getting that piece that turns them around, and becoming a team that plays up to its talent. If I had to guess my money would be on Calgary. Ive not read anything that supports this, I just know that Calgary and Edmonton are the fiercest of rivals and as the Hamilton situation demonstrated they have no compunction against doing whatever they can to one up the other....

I doubt we will ever know definitively one way or the other because Garth can be a vindictive stubborn cuss on occasions but it does put a whole new spin on things

Are you sure about this because there's a Jets fan on this thread here that says it was his agent that leaked it. Even though this Jets fan didn't even know why Hamonic was leaving in the first place I think he's a reliable source.

Tyler Seguin did little more the embarrass the F*@# out of the Bruins organization and I doubt that would have changed. They simply felt that a change of scenery would be best for everybody. Dallas has Benn to thank for making TS into a better player, teammate, and person. He is very well respected by fellow players. As far as Kessel is concerned, he made Seguin look like a choir boy. Kessel was and always will be a cancer to any team he plays for. I am sure Sidney is wishing the Pens had a do-over. Million dollar talent with a ten cent brain and a penny's worth of attitude. The Pens are already talking about having to trade Malkin because they are too top heavy for the salary cap era. NOW Hamonic is a solid defenseman with a very cap-friendly contract and is a team player that gives a team everything he has every shift of every game. You do not see a lot of big name D-men being traded and that in itself is why I personally would not have traded him one for one for Kessel; I would have done the Seguin deal just because of TS's age and having Tavares be a similar influence as Benn.

as sure as one can be in things like this. the Isles are notoriously anal when it comes to what goes on in the front office, agents have learned the hard way how vindictive Garth can be....look no further than Andre Rufener, who as Nino Neiderreiters agent, pissed off Snow so much, that Neiderreiter got traded off despite being the Isles best prospect at the time.....to this day Snow wont deal with Rufener or his free agent clients.....Usually when Garth wants to send a message, rare as it is, Arthur Staple will deliver it. he's the only beat reporter who seems to have access to Garth.

For Hamonic to come out publicly and say it wasnt him or his agent, also means that he didnt do anything, because Travis knows how vindictive Garth Can be. he was there when the whole Neiderreiter situation played out, and he wouldnt want to be traded to the Panthers, or Dallas Stars, or San Jose Sharks, which are about as far from St Malo as Garth could send him.

Garth was well known as an ornery S.O.B. as a player from what Ive seen and read, he hasnt changed much as a GM. so based on the known factors I have to think that Jets fan is misinformed......its also why i doubt it was Chiarelli, because if anyone knows Garth its him.... he'd know Garth would tear him a new one if he ever found out...

Brad Treliving is a relatively new GM so i doubt he knows Garth Snow that well, I could see him doing the leaking just to make things difficult for Chiarelli.... once again that part is just my own educated guess based upon the way Calgary and Edmonton always tweak one another.....its been going on forever, so I wouldnt put it past them.

Garth Snow needs to quit dragging his feet on this Hamonic deal. Sure he wants to get value, but you can't have this sideshow for the team currently fighting for a playoff spot.

sure there are, they have a tremendous collection of talent, they just are not built right and they have been too timid to trade the wrong pieces for fear they become great after a trade out of edmonton. Teams dont want to be known as the one who gave them the pieces that woke up the miss-matched giant.

They would rather see Edmonton remain indecisive and constantly getting in their own way....honestly they are incredibly talented but extremely soft to play against. their structure is no structure and thats why 8 years into this rebuild they are still in last......

you need a mix of talented leaders and and workmanlike followers and edmonton has too many players who see themselves as stars who wont do the grunge work. Other teams like the Oilers dysfunctionality just fine.....but that doesnt mean they dont fear that they may one day wake up to reality, and trade some of the great talent and actually build a team thats cohesive and difficult to play against

sure they are. no team deliberately wants to be a laughingstock years on end. the oilers brass are too timid because they cannot correctly value their players.perfect example is yakupov, they see the former 1st overall as a budding superstar instead of what he is, so they have not traded him because they're afraid he'll break out elsewhere. Travis Hamonic is clearly better right now than Nurse or Klefbom and yet they're afraid to move either for fear of them eventually being better than Hamonic... coveniently forgetting they've been a laughingstock for 8 years and are currently in last again. thats totally timid. They have the assets to get better but they refuse to act. only a true Jobroni or someone in denial wouldnt see that and adamantly continue to remain a laughingstock year after year after year......8 years,4 1st overalls and currently worse than when they started

I thought the reason Hamonic wanted to leave the Islanders was to go out west, as in West Coast or Western Canada? Since when is Columbus or Pittsburgh "west"?

I would love to see Hamonic on the Pens and defensemen like him are what the team sorely lacks but I can't see him wanting to play for any eastern team. I also can't see Snow dealing a good, very physical and aggressive defenseman to any divisional team under any circumstance. I wouldn't be surprised if Rutherford and Snow have never even spoken with each other . Divisional trades are very rare for good reason.

My bad. Thought you meant afraid Someone like Eberle would improve to career highs elsewhere....that shouldn't be a fear.
