He's signed until he's 41...

That contract hurt his trade value big time, unless you guys think he'll be a stud into his late 30's.

Yeah...(frank) no.

Would rather have Giroux at 8.3M until he's 34 instead of Weber at 7.8M until he's 41.

I completely forgot about this aspect. Maybe they can move him for Parise.

Agree. But that's who Nashville would ask about. No idea why Ek thinks Schenn could be a starting point

1) Holmgren is not GM
2) Nashville ownership nixed a deal with Philly because of the offersheet ordeal
3) Flyers don't have Cap space for Weber

so........

so the black board gets wiped clean and the Weber to the leafs blog comes up tomorrow

He's trying to become a fiction writer. HB allows him to practice.

No it doesn't bc until Weber has completely declined, most teams covet his skill level.

Weber is the type of player you'd have to trade half your team for. It's really not worth it IMO. Better off drafting and waiting for players to develop.

Okay then, I guess we can assume no player will ever decline or improve until it finally happens then. Seems like a smart way to manage a NHL franchise.

Ur twisting words, u said his contract hurts his value and I said it doesn't until he show's declined play.... We all know players decline but when is the question, don't go off topic of what u stated...

You said that him being signed for another 11 years and until he's 41 doesn't diminish his value since he's still a star and he hasn't declined yet. I think that's hilariously stupid since almost all data points to players declining in their mid 30's, let alone late 30's. So using common sense and logic, you can expect him to decline around the midway point of his contract, that hurts his trade value since he'll be overpaid and there's a salary cap.

that contract was so front loaded making it very difficult for Nashville to match. But they did anyways. They already paid a good portion of his total salary. The rest of the years will be cheaper salary than the cap hit. Exactly what Nashville wants since they don't spend to the cap. I can't see them letting him go unless Weber asks or the offer is overwelming.

W.e dude, ur grasping bc all teams will line-up and pay for Weber's services right now and worry bout the latter when that road comes. So lets not assume "if's" & "when's" on a player when its about now...
If Weber got traded in off-season to a team, doesn't he immediately change the perception of that teams chances?? I'll go on a limb and say YES...

For a non-cap team like Nashville/Arizona/Etc it won't matter but for teams who plan to spend to the cap it matters if he declines. That means that those cap-ceiling teams will be concerned about the future and not offer as much as they would if his contract was shorter. I'm not saying he's worthless, I'm just saying it hurts his trade value.

Good GM's and owners aren't as short-sighted as "who cares about 5 years from now".

Josi is better than Weber now. Jones will likely be better in the near future if he isn't already. Weber was superb in his prime but physical big minute skaters don't usually last long and he is no different. He's already showing signs of decline from his peak. It mostly gets overlooked because of his reputation and style.

Don't want Shea Weber for what it's going to take to get him now. 5 years ago yes. Flyer have young D that will be here in 2 years or less, Weber isn't needed. A young defenseman with NHL experience yes, but not a 30 year old on a huge cap hit contract seemingly forever
