The NHL will invoke a "Raffl clause" which allows the Flyers to exceed the salary cap by $1100M per season and sign Raffl for as many years as they like so that they can retain his services. Raffl will win the 2018 Winter Games men's cross-country skiing gold medal by the end of next year and will father no less than 450 strong Austrain boys. After he ascends to Valhalla at the age of 158 after dying in a cage match against 19 African alpha male lions, mankind will hold a mass suicide since they no longer exist on the same spiritual plane as Michael Raffl and therefore see no reason to continue living.

So, a lot.

Hell Raffl could be traded at the TDL.

Not sure why you have to give him figures.

Raffl's the kind of player that low-budget teams that use analytics will want to scoop up when he's cheap because most of his contributions are under-the-radar/make-his-line-better kind of stuff.

The minute his salary gets to the $2-3M+ range, his value-proposition is gone, since he's probably not gonna reliably score enough goals/points to justify that kind of expenditure.

IMO, I'd rather work to identify the next Raffl then get stuck paying the guy more to be something he's not.

Just for context, 50 point players are getting 5-6M AAV in this league.

I imagine Raff might have a tough time breaking 30pts regularly.

Crosby has 11 points in 20 games and apparently has fallen out with Mario Lemieux.

The above is sadly more likely to occur than VLC scoring a goal this season.

Yup congrats Wheels, they're bringing up a career minor leaguer rather than dress you. But hey, you're getting paid.

Could be just the change of scenery he needs. I wouldn't complain as long as Giroux didn't go the other way.

I'd agree. 30-35 points might be his top out. That's still worth $2.5 mil AAV or thereabouts though. You make it sound like it's easy to find a possession monster who is a great 3 zone player who can pot some goals too. He can play on any line, in any role, though is best slotted as a middle 6 player. It's not easy to find jack of all trades players like that. If we started talking 4 year $16 million...then yeah. But 3 years $7 mil? I'd do that in a heartbeat.

why wont you answer the question? what would you resign him for in term and dollars? pretty simple question no?
- rinaldo

I don't know why he won't, but I love that he doesn't. And if he ever feels the urge to answer it I want him to contact me. I'll pay him to not answer.

Not easy, but not really that hard either.

Like I don't want the Flyers stuck w/ contracts like Pouliot and Fayne, just because of how they looked via analytics. Toronto's basically getting the same production out of PA Parenteau and Hunwick, whom combined is costing them a fraction of the salary of just one of the aforementioned Oilers.

I wouldn't do a multiyear contract for him. I'd make him available at the deadline he should net us a mid round pick. They can explore resigning him in UFA if they really want to.

One factor is overlooked. You want to build a team, not just a revolving group of players. You want players to grow together, and build chemistry and an identity together.
