Every player is an individual. It's amazing how many posts there are that the Flyers are just stuck in some outdated philosophy, and just don't know what they're doing. Sometimes there are reasons that aren't considered, or information that is not known, that comes into the decisions that a team makes.

I agree, just poking fun at those who are obsessed with the "Detroit" model when it comes to prospects.

You can absolutely interrupt the momentum and progress a young player has been making in the minors, and set him back. A player like Straka finally seems like he's making his way forward. I can understand if the Flyers just want to let him be for now, and continue what he's doing.
- MJL

I look at this specific call up a bit differently.

Where would Straka most benefit playing? In a scoring role, getting 17+ minutes a night with LV, or in a checking role down with the Flyers getting 5-8 mintues a night?

McDonald isnt developing. They know what he is going to bring to the ice. Smart move.

Do I think it would hurt Straka to come up? No, but it also wont help him any.

Each prospect or young player is an individual. Any thought that the Flyers first consider what's best for the young player? It really doesn't have anything to do with a mentality.

what would you resign raffle for money and term?

You also run a risk of interrupting his progress by NOT calling him up. Here he is one of the top goal scorers in the AHL and the flyers bypass him twice for Lierer and McDonald.

We're pretty much on the same page. It's early and Straka is having a big year in the AHL. I don't think it would be a mistake.to.call him up, but I'd leave him right where he is and let him continue building on his season. There is likely going to be time for him later in the year to come up.

I don't think so. Hell be getting top ice-time down there. He's finally having a good season.

I'm with whatever model the flyers choose to employ. And if your against it, well you just don't have all the facts.

I dont think him playing 5-8 minutes a game against guys like Shawn Thornton or Zac Rinaldo will help him develop his game. He is a top 6 type. Let him keep on going getting top minutes in LHV.

if they called him up I would think they would play him in a more prominent role; especially since they lack scoring.

he isn't a rookie in the ahl any longer. not sure what is the right call.

Don't mind passing on Straka for now. If he doesn't get called up at the end of the season I will be disappointed. I would hope he gets a good chance to play in the top six after the TDL if he continues to impress in LHV. If he looses steam then all bets are off.

I figure the top 9 (even without Gagner for a few weeks) are pretty nailed down.

They have Raffl and PEB who are both capable of playing pretty much on any line... and Leier who has been playing well with Laughton.

So bringing up McDonald to play with VDV and Raffl/PEB isnt a bad idea.

Would I be upset if they brought up Straka. LOL not at all. Quite the opposite actually, but I also can see why they are leaving him down.

when it comes to the development of prospects, talking more so about the dmen, I have no problem erring on the side of caution and giving them time in situations where they can continue to improve. One can argue a young player has never been ruined being given more time in juniors/minors but some have been by being rushed to the NHL. i always felt the Flyers made a mistake rushing Sbisa before trading him away.

if they are to call Straka up I would want to see him in the top 6 otherwise don't bother. that said, I would have been ok with calling Cousins up for the bottom 6 opposed to inserting Vinny in the lineup or McDonald. but thats me

one figures they would want an extended look at him and cousins at some point. 25% of the season is over. despite what the math says they are not a playoff team.

its also possible that hextalla nd crew don't like what they see form cousins or starka and don't think they fit into any future plans.

I think we should stop asking who the Flyers should bring up from LV, but start asking what can the Flyers do to get Voracek,Simmonds, Couturier etc going?

I understand the eagerness to see what the youngsters can do, and to a certain extent me too. But we're at the Thanksgiving part of the season. I'm not ready to start calling guys up just because we're in a rut. Call me an idiot, and I'm sure some may be thinking to yourselves that, but I'd like to see if they can make a run before the new year to see where we're at. If you truly feel that what you see right now is going to be the same in December, January I can respect that.

I don't know how much a guy like Straka or even Cousins benefit the team in 2015-16.
