Just another night in the nhl. 8 games completed. 4 shutouts. Nsh 3 mins away from being shutout #5.

And yet all the supposed hockey wiseguys mock those that think there's a goal scoring problem, as if there's nothing to be concerned about.

There is so much obstruction going on that attacking forwards almost never have a clear path or lane. It's sad and nearly pathetic.

As far as scoring; there's definitely a problem. Make the goddamn nets 2" wider and 1" taller. That'll add about 2 more goals a game. And I think everyone would be happy with 5.5 goals a game. Well at least until the goalies figure out the angles, but then something else will be open, so it'll be an ongoing thing. I would say I'm a traditionalist. There's nothing wrong with a tie. But hockey is by far the most changed "major" sport with major rules changes coming every other year it seems, so why can't the nets be a tiny bit bigger? it would go from 24 square feet to 25.1 square feet of shooting area. OMG! Such a huge difference! No one ever envisioned goalies that were 6'7". I bet no one even envisioned a person being 6'7" let alone a top notch goalie when the nets were originally sized at 6x4.

There was an article on ESPN that showed Mario Lemieux's 10 best goals from 84-92 from an old Pens broadcast. And half of them he was mugged on the way in. Stickwork, just plain grabbing him. And I think only 2 of them were going to be penalties. So while it's not great, it could be a lot worse.

O'Reilly led all Sabres skaters in total TOI with 22:14. Bylsma is playing him too much and he is going to get burnt out soon. He plays a very hard style and he is getting too many minutes. He also only had one shot on goal in that much time.

Kane is a worse disappointment than I feared. He certainly doesn't appear to create any real threats offensively. We were a better team when he was out. I know... the competition, but seriously something is pretty bad with our offense right now.

Lets keep this in perspective...

the Buffalo Sabres are a VERY young team

this year's Dallas Stars are 1st in the west and probably will be in the hunt for a cup....these games happen

- feetontheair22

This excuse is valid for Reinhart and Eichel.

Not Moulson, Kane, Gionta, Ennis and the others

Kane has no creativity whatsoever. He's a North and south power forward who is having a serious issue producing right now

NHLers made fun of him for this in the past. Said he only threw the puck a little bit ahead of himself and relied on his speed to beat defenders, which teams figured out fairly easily. I like him but he does need to step up.

Yeah they were a lot greats from the 80's and 90's....but we are also in an era with a lot of special Defensemen. Wouldn't be too shocked to see at least a dozen current NHL defenders in the hall of fame a few decades from now.

Weber, Suter, Doughty, Keith, Karrlson, Subban, Chara probably all make it.

Then there's the next tier like Bouwmeester, Seabrook, Campbell, Markov.

I wonder who out of the youngsters has a HOF career ? I'm talking Ekblad, Pietrangelo, Rielly, Nurse, Jones, Brodie, Trouba Josi, Brodin, Hamilton ect..l

I don't buy that. By all accounts he's a fitness freak. Look at Duncan Keith. Guy played the most minutes ever in one playoffs and won the Conn Smythe still playing lights out right up until the end. Now playing 25 minutes every night is probably too much, but 22 is totally fine with a 25 minute game thrown in every once in a while, and he seems to get "maintenance" days off during the week too, so that helps with recovery. But if he starts showing signs of fatigue then obviously dial him back. The way these guys train and more importantly eat in this day and age; I'm not too concerned at this time.

I think I'd say Markov is pretty close to a lock. Maybe not first ballot, but second or third time around. I'm not sure about Suter though. He's a good player and all, but is he one of the all-time greats? Those other guys certainly are.

Seabrook I could see. Campbell I'd say no unless he gets in when he's 80, probably the same with Bouwmeester, who was on some bad teams, and never really go the respect he deserved in the media. His bank account did just fine though.

Pietrangelo has a shot, Josi possibly, but it's way too early for those other guys for me. Brodin has shown some flash too, and if he can keep getting better then yeah, I'd say put him in.

A few random thoughts from this season.
The moulson ror gionta line is just not working at all.
Deslaurier is actually usefull as a skater and has no business fighting the other teams tough guy off a faceoff, like peters use to.
Our defense looks dependable.
Ennis on the point of the pp is a bad idea.
5 on 3 pp needs tons of work.

Hate losing and being shut out. End rant!

Last night was what, his second game back after a knee injury? Is Kane now the new Stafford? Maybe we should trade him and a few others.

First it was Gorges. He sucks. Then it was Ennis, and then Kane, and Moulson, and Gionta. They suck. Heck, you guys were even complaining about Bogo and he wasn't even playing. They're not all stars, they are what they are.

News flash you guys. It's a young team with a lot of new faces and a new coaching staff. It takes time. I give them kudos for the record they actually have. Just enjoy the season, they're more entertaining to watch.

Gorges has looked pretty good this year. He is the perfect 5/6 and can fill in 4. I had really high hopes for Ennis this year. I even bypassed my "no drafting Sabres" rule in fantasy and drafted him. I expected a big year from him. Kane has played well but his low percentage shots are starting to become annoying. We need to find a fit for him. I have no issues with MM's game. He is not a flashy guy by any means. Gets to the net and produces here and there. Gionta should be on the 3rd line. He is being played in situations that we don't think he should. Here are the lines I would like to see.

9 90 63
26 15 23
88 28 12
82 22 44

Run with it for 5 games or so and see if chemistry can gel.

I agree with the big picture assessment that they are much more entertaining this year, and overall I am enjoying it quite a bit.

That said, at the micro level there are several players not carrying their weight, and the frustration I have is that it is the vets who are underproducing...especially the top 6 vets, with an exception to ROR who is a stud.
Yes, Kane and Ennis are the new Staffords because each is producing the way Staff did, which is to say not very much production. These are younger vets who should being producing big numbers. It is simply unacceptable to have only a few goals after 20 games (ok 15 for Kane). That projects to what 10 goals over the season for each top 6 guy...not good enough and they need to be told so.
Gionta and Moulson I have lower expectations for, but they are underwhelming as well.
