im with you man just trade him now get value... no use letting the mashed potatoes go cold while the turkey is cooking. - JoeRussomanno
Thats a very utilitarian way of viewing things. I do not think it is as simple as trading everyone that might not be in their prime in 4 years. There is value to keeping him around while rebuilding |

Giroux makes 8.5 million never scored 30 goals in a season and is no where to be found in 5 on 5 hockey. Lives by the power play. Makes no one on his line better. Horrible captain. Remember when he hit Crosby & scored that goal in playoffs.... Yea that was 5 years ago - Williamc5468

Is this an actual comment or a synopsis of every "angry fan" call to talk radio? As the latter, it's pretty good. However, you forgot to threaten to stop watching, say how indifferent the players and then to propose some completely unrealistic trade the team would pull off it was only run by competent people. - bmeltzer

he's a nice player, I don't view him as elite... i guess our record with him as our centerpiece and 5 on 5 offense really blows holes in that argument silly me. |

Marian Hossa is close to 10-years older than Toews/Kane... I'm not sure they're a dynasty w/o him. |

Even if you want to trade Giroux, it will be extremely difficult to both do so and obtain maximum value. First off, there are likely very few contending teams that can absorb an 8.275 million dollar cap hit mid season, and Giroux has a full NMC/NTC so he would have to also approve the trade.
If they are going to move Giroux, and I think that's very unlikely, it would probably have to be at the draft when teams have more cap flexibility.

with him being the focal point here he is going to take extra abuse. teams will bear down on him.
will he still be effective in 4 years. yeah probably. not sure if it is a risk worth taking, assuming you can get a great deal in return for him.
I personally think Nashville is in a spot where they need to take that next few steps. not sure off the top of my head what they have to offer.
st Louis as well. - rinaldo
It's a fair conversation to have. I lean towards keeping him and Jake. Everyone else is on the table. I just think it's good to have some vets on a rebuilding squad filtering a lot of young talent in. I'm not concerned with a major dropoff in productivity. I'm more concerned with not placing a ton of responsibility on the young kids coming up. |

good gm's can make deals of that magnitude happen...avg ones can not.
st Louis and Nashville probably don't want to wait until the draft |

i didn't give a time frame so at the draft is fine... i also understand trading him doesn't cure all the ills either, apso yea they'd have to eat around half that contract. but if it gets you maybe the top or second pick of the draft i consider it. it's clear we are not winning in his prime and it's not clear what he will be like 5-6 years from now... the same ppl saying how his skills won't deteriorate are the same that told me Danny Briere had YEARS left to play back in 2012 when i decreed he was cooked. |

what are you going to get for the rest of the players that will help the rebuild? lateral players is my guess.
you can always acquire vets to groom young players. |

I want no parts of a trade of Giroux that involves eating 4M in cap hit. If we want to talk silly, that's silly. So Briere declined at a certain point, so that means Giroux will? Also silly. |

Well that analogy refers to the team surrounding Giroux, and is not about how good of a player that Giroux is. Giroux is the Ferrari. |

what does it matter if you eat half of it... i thought we are hell bent on keeping players in the juniors/minors to ferment 4-5 years... way i see it ok fine then let's put the best ingredients in that slow cooker, not let part of the meal spoil while we wait. yea briere dropped off as did a lot of players, imo its a bigger risk hoping giroux won't then drafting high and maybe getting another pick or promising prospect. the odds swing back in your favor with younger options than older |
