Thanks Bill. The forwards are having a tough time finishing. In addition, as mentioned, the forwards keep getting caught too deep, and behind the net. Not to mention, some players keep skating up the ice without the puck, and get caught off sides, or end up with the puck between the skates. It's one thing to want to score, it's another to keep making the same mistakes over, and over.
I didn't think that the Sharks played an especially difficult game; other than jamming up the neutral zone. The forwards have to figure out how to solve that type of game play, and to not get frustrated with the slower style.
In addition, someone please get to the net to create something that resembles a difficult time for the goalie. I really don't see enough of that; the shots can mount up, but are they quality shots, and are the shots easy for the goalie to track?

The're solidly in the middle-third of league in terms high-danger chances and scoring chances overall. They're near the bottom in shots-for. Shot-quality doesn't seem to be the issue as much as taking more shots and actually converting on them (27th-ranked in ES SH%).
One thing that particularly peeves me of late....... whenever they have an odd man rush, especially a 2 on 1 , they seldom get a shot on the net. It's either wide, the puck is fumbled, or a bad pass instead of shoot situation - DaveofYork
Maybe if they play with 100% effort they'll bury those

In my opinion shot quality is absolutely an issue, along with getting more traffic to the net, and getting second chance opportunities. They also aren't finishing when they do get quality chances. This isn't about puck luck, it's about getting better chances and executing. Not even getting good shots on 2 on 1's.
Over the past six NHL seasons, name the players who have more points than Giroux.
Oh that's right, none of them. - Jsaquella
how many playoff games has he played in since the lockout season? how many playoff series wins? Giroux is a luxury on this team....now is most of this his fault, of course not. the point is they are not winning with him. he will be logging heavy minutes on this team. at some point it will catch up to him.
unless the organization really believes they will be legit contenders in 2 years he is a luxury they don't need. they will lose with or without him. this team is so far away imo.
they need to explore Giroux trade options. doesn't mean they trade him just see what he could possibly get.
Is this an actual comment or a synopsis of every "angry fan" call to talk radio? As the latter, it's pretty good. However, you forgot to threaten to stop watching, say how indifferent the players and then to propose some completely unrealistic trade the team would pull off it was only run by competent people. - bmeltzer

Has Couturier ever scored from one of his wicked wristers when he gets the pass standing still in the slot? It seems like he has 3-5 of those shots a game - Just5
those will go in once he's paired with better linemates and defensemen also needs more o-zone draws.

How is having a top flight number 1 center a luxury?
This isn't baseball, where it's an actual luxury if you have a last place team and the best closer (a one inning pitcher) in the sport. That's a luxury.
Claude Giroux plays (well) in every conceivable situation in the sport. He's your best scorer, your best passer, your best penalty killer, your best faceoff guy, etc, etc.

how well that's easy imo. they are one of the worst teams in the league with him...how much worse will it be without him? they are going nowhere with him leading the way...they are years from contending imo..that's how he is a luxury.
he is a beast in the playoffs. he would clearly be the missing piece for some teams in theory. saint Ronnie needs to find a way to exploit that.

Fair enough, I just don't see it that way.
He's the kind of guy with a skill set that won't deteriorate quickly and I think he'll still be a real good asset when they are ready to contend.

with him being the focal point here he is going to take extra abuse. teams will bear down on him.
will he still be effective in 4 years. yeah probably. not sure if it is a risk worth taking, assuming you can get a great deal in return for him.
I personally think Nashville is in a spot where they need to take that next few steps. not sure off the top of my head what they have to offer.

saying he's the best on this team is like saying he's a giant amongst midgets
So sick of hearing how well they played and deserved a better fate. Bottom line is they lost, they stink. Is this what us Philly fans are accepting now? Effort but lose? Everyone on this team should be available for trade...especially Giroux! So overrated! - Williamc5468
Giroux makes 8.5 million never scored 30 goals in a season and is no where to be found in 5 on 5 hockey. Lives by the power play. Makes no one on his line better. Horrible captain. Remember when he hit Crosby & scored that goal in playoffs.... Yea that was 5 years ago - Williamc5468
