I am also asking to speculate even further in the future...when you say that the Flyers will be competitive and Vinny's 916k buyout penalty will be dead money. I think the team will have enough ELCs where it is not a problem to fit them under the cap. The only raises they will have are potentially B Schenn again and MDZ/Ghost/Mason. Combined with Streit and Umberger no longer on the books, I dont see how Hextall couldnt work around 916k of dead money when he is already working around 8 mill + of dead money.

- YuenglingJagr

I've never stated that Hextall can't work around the buyout, so get your facts straight. What I've said repeatedly is that having zero dead cap space for Lecavalier is better than carrying dead cap space, and that further into the future, is when they may have a bigger need for the cap, such as to sign a key free agent to finish off the roster, rather than an immediate need for the cap space next season, when the Flyers aren't likely to be a contending team.

Stop saying things like they dont need to buyout Lecavalier, because we both know that there are ways to get under the cap without buying him out. My point is that he is so useless to this team that the cap penalties are worth buying him out this summer. Getting rid of him is a positive, but getting rid of Read and Streit are negatives (in terms of current on ice production)

- YuenglingJagr

Why would I stop saying they don't need to, when it's the truth? My point is that it's better to bite the bullet for one more year, to be clear and free, without further cap penalties. How can you not expect roster turnover? Room has to be made for younger players. What good is keeping a 39 year old defenseman when the team isn't likely to be a good team? Read is a valuable player to a winning team. If you're a losing team, trading Read isn't going to kill you.

Don't you have to add/remove players when you're speculating what the roster may look like next year (assuming the roster is not identical to this year's)?
- jmatchett383

I'm not MJL, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night. He's not saying his rosters don't include additions/subtractions. He's saying they're not trying to predict what the team will do. It's an experiment in possibilities.

Even the best faceoff guy in the league can't win them all.

You're really making a great first impression.

- Feanor

I know that but the most important one of the game and your the best player & captain can't win the draw when it counts. Excuses for everything

I never asked him to predict what will happen. I simply want to see what player(s) he sees as possibilities to add/remove from the current roster to next year's where he fits VLC.

In which regard(s)?

I have not ever seen him play a single full game, so I'm not aware of his strengths/weaknesses at the pro level.

It really doesn't matter. All that matters is this.

Are the savings worth the cost? I think they are because the alternative is trading away players the Flyers may not actually want to trade for whatever reason. Does Hextall trade away Nick Schultz a year after signing him? Does he trade Streit? We can all hope, but it remains to be seen. Is it worth keeping Read around to do the heavy defensive work while our younger guys adjust to the NHL? I think that trades at the TDL are the best for the team overall, but to say that buying out VLC will hurt this team is just being a bit naive, in my opinion.

Buying out VLC wouldn't hurt the team and there's no reason to do it right now.

Flyers said he was injured. Reporters speculated that it is a concussion.

Now, to be fair, I believe that he is injured, too, but nobody on the Flyers has confirmed that it is a concussion as far as I know. And the link you provide does not have a quote from the Flyers saying it is a concussion.

However, some here have said that he has participated fully in recent practices which, if true, besides being big, kind of goes against it being a concussion.

I agree with most of what you've been talking about regarding vinny. I wanted him bought out this past summer. If he doesn't retire this summer hextall made a mistake in my opinion. It's never good to stay in a completely broken relationship at almost any cost. There are plenty of teams operating well below the cap ceiling icing some of the better teams in hockey

Yep. The whole league is that way.

My point is all we can do is speculate about the injury status until the team gives details. And when someone comes on here and "knows" the injury but only provides more speculation, well...
