well technically they can not score in regulation and OT, but get one in the shootout, which isn't really scoring and win - nastyflyergirl

What would you rather him say? "Hey guys, thanks for buying tickets and coming to see us play, sorry we suck, we have a plan for a few years down the road, hope you're still a fan." He has to portray a public image and this team, the way they played to start the season, could be a playoff team. I don't know where that play went but we won some good games and almost beat TB in OT. Even if a team is tanking, you have to expect hard work and effort even if the line up is all AHL players. Their level of play as of lately has been unacceptable. - Tomfan365
Of course he can't say those things
This isn't the lier lier movie.
I guess we'll all be happy to get another lottery pick.
I don't know, I hate watching a struggling team, and knowing nothing will be done about it. |

Who gets traded and who can they call up? I am saying currently this is the situation they find themselves in. Today, the day we are discussing what will need to be done next year, this is the situation they are in.
I know the situation the team is in and can look towards the future, I am not just posting about it for my health. It is the same reason why I wanted to cry when I found out Schultz got signed for 2 seasons. This coming offseason is the one that matters for the Flyers and is the offseason where the crunch hurts them. Sure I would love to have guys traded for next year, but we have to see it happen. As I have maintained, if it comes down to it, VLC may need to be bought out and it really doesnt hurt them all that much if he does.
I have thought of it which is why I asked you about it. You are talking about it like Vinny can fit in under the cap next year no problem, but it sounds like you are assuming someone is traded. I am all for having an actual conversation about this, but we need to agree that the team will have serious trouble fitting under the cap without cutting/trading someone from the roster. Everyone thinks Hextall will trade Streit at the deadline, but it is up to him to see if that's where he thinks he will have the most value. Maybe a team doesn't want a 39 year old on the books for 5.25 next season (or cant fit him like the NYR) - YuenglingJagr
Ask yourself one simple question. Based on how this team has played and it's projections, why on earth would Hextall come back with that roster for next season?

Unfortunately that is how the league is set up: it rewards failure. The Flyers are going to stink again next year too since they will still have cap problems. They might add some rookies but they take time to develop at the NHL level. So get use to the stink.
Now the question I pose to you is would you rather be bottom 3 in the league bad or in the that mediocre middle between 7-12 if they aren't going to make the playoffs either way? - psuhockey
Didn't they make the cup finals in the 8th seed?
No sorry, I'll drink the cool aid & wish for a lottery pick |

It's pretty easy to speculate that Vinny will fit under the cap if you trade players until he fits - YuenglingJagr
You call it that, I call it a sensible and reasonable turning over of a roster that makes sense based on the state of the team.

I am not suggesting that he will or should. Hence the vinny buyout. |

Aaaaaand we are back to square one. Great work. Still waiting to see how you fit him in...but its clear you are just assuming trades happen. The only trade that would help us get under the cap next year that has been rumored by reputable sources is Brayden Schenn and the obvious Vinny trade |

If you actually watch the flyers game you would've heard them talk about it pre game tues before kings game. But I guess being a super fan you missed it. Maybe you saw your boy giroux lose an important face off with a minute left that game that lead to the tying goal. - Williamc5468
Even the best faceoff guy in the league can't win them all.
You're really making a great first impression. |

The thing is, with the cap, it's more and more difficult to fix the issues. There $8.6mm in cap space tied up in Lecavalier & MacDonald. They can't move either of those guys.
I think this summer we will see Lecavalier or Umberger gone, maybe both. Next season we will see some of the kids, and Hextall will probably be more in a position to make a move. |

2nd best to Toews for guys who take them regularly. Maybe if he won that one against the Kings though |
