Vinny buyout/termination/etc. should be the last area of concern right now. More pressing concerns:

- Why isn't Medvedev playing?
- Why can't we turn possession into goals?
- Is AMac a viable replacement for anyone at this point
- Can Matt Carle play NHL-caliber defense and do a load of laundry at the same time?
- What the (frank) is with Voracek?
- Is Radko Gudas seriously the Flyers' best defenseman right now?

Really????
Coburn for Gudas.
That helps you compete?
I understand his plan, just not a fan of stinking on purpose.
What GM in the league has a team dead last in scoring & is happy about it?
Only a GM who doesn't expect anything for a few more years.

- puckhead17

Gudas has one of the highest compete levels on the team. That trade was obviously made for the future. What makes you think Hextall is happy about the current level of play of the team?

I'm not into tanking, losing on purpose, giving a season away, (that's a year off guys careers).
I understand building a base, but Hextall telling everyone he expects to make the playoffs this season is bull$hit.

- puckhead17

What would you rather him say? "Hey guys, thanks for buying tickets and coming to see us play, sorry we suck, we have a plan for a few years down the road, hope you're still a fan." He has to portray a public image and this team, the way they played to start the season, could be a playoff team. I don't know where that play went but we won some good games and almost beat TB in OT. Even if a team is tanking, you have to expect hard work and effort even if the line up is all AHL players. Their level of play as of lately has been unacceptable.

One speculation could be that he's pissed about what is going on now and decides that he wants every penny of his contract.

Plausible?

Sure if you think Lecavalier wants to work his ass off in the Summer to be a healthy scratch again for the 3rd straight season, I guess that's plausible.

#1 Medvedev is hurt (or we have a serious coaching issue if he is not)
#2 Not enough total team skill on 5 v 5, the #1PP can if Jake and Simmonds would get going
#3 Amac could replace Schultz or Manning, I am happy with the play of both right handed guys and would not pull Ghost or MDZ or Streit when healthy for Amac
#4 Matt Carle can do anything, seriously under appreciated laundry guy by this fan base
#5 I don't know, although he is skating and playing better, he is finishing like a second coming of Andreas Nodl
#6 No but I appreciate his game a lot

Gudas is playing very well lately. The hustle he showed after getting out of the Pentaly box to get the puck was awesome. Haven't seen much of that. I think Hakstol needs to tll the team to be themselves. Everyone is too worried about getting benched if the make a mistake, so they are playing uptight. I also believe it time to change the lines around. As much as they won't admit it, Couturier is their shut down center, and will not be a second line centermen. I think they need to move Schenn back to that spot for the time being. Also, i think Luke Schenn is playinng his a$$ off this season. He is definitely uping his trade value. I do believe during the season we trade streit while he still has value, Read, Both Schenns and possiby even Simmonds. Lines i would love to see.

Leier Giroux Voracek
Gagner Schenn Simmonds
Raffl Couturier Read
Laughton Bellemare Vandevelde

Del Zotto Gudas
Gostisbehere Manning
Schultz Schenn

Yes yes. Coots to 3c and b schenn to 2c. It's time. The coots experiment has failed.

It is speculative so to the dollar is a guess. Same with the cap ceiling. It depends on if they will let Raffl walk and what B Schenn will sign for. Him signing for 4 million/year kills almost half of this offseason's budget.

It doesn't matter one bit what he says publicly. Not one bit.
The only things that matter are his actions.

Unfortunately that is how the league is set up: it rewards failure. The Flyers are going to stink again next year too since they will still have cap problems. They might add some rookies but they take time to develop at the NHL level. So get use to the stink.

Now the question I pose to you is would you rather be bottom 3 in the league bad or in the that mediocre middle between 7-12 if they aren't going to make the playoffs either way?

In some cases, yes it has to be speculative. I've used the current cap ceiling. Since you've said you've looked at the numbers, you'll share yours also, correct? Fitting B Schenn in at 4M is not a problem.

Another scenario:

He knows he's done but he's pissed about this season. He works out just enough next summer to not get sent down for a "conditioning assignment"*, accepts that he'll still be a healthy scratch**, gets every penny of his contract.

Plausible?

*(if that even is such a thing. I don't know. Someone here posted it a while ago.)
** he's used to it by now so maybe he decides it's not so bad

I think so, too.

But is that "stinking on purpose," or is it "stinking because there's not a whole lot that can be done about it right now or in the immediate future"?

Then we have a serious coaching issue because I haven't read any reports that Medvedev has missed practice this week.

I didnt bother wasting time trying to find one that accounts for the future so the numbers there dont show the 500k that comes off from Grossmanns contract. Obviously has the same cap hit. I think the combined numbers for B Schenn/Raffl are pretty conservative too

the team can't score. if you can't score, you're not going to win. it's as simple as that.
- hammarby31

well technically they can not score in regulation and OT, but get one in the shootout, which isn't really scoring and win

The conditioning assignment has a time limit I believe. and I do not believe it creates any cap relief...just kind of a Richard move as I understand it.

One thing Bill mentioned is that he does not see Vinny in the press box during games...not sure if that means he just doesnt go to games. Pretty simple to just practice with an NHL hockey team for 3 million bucks

Not denying your sentiment, but we also might have a "coachability" issue.

Let's be real- the guy is 33 years old who is set in his own ways (his playing style has been forming for ~ 20 years under different structure). Additionally, there is a significant language barrier, that hinders cognitive aspects of coaching. And lets be honest, adults learn through understanding not through demonstration only.
