Is having him not dead cap space??
I hate losing, I'm not like the average poster drooling over more, and more picks.

- puckhead17

That's a good point, he pretty much is wasted cap space at this point and a roster spot. I'm on team "don't buy him out" but if he doesn't decide to retire we're in trouble. I also agree that you only do it if you can make the money useful now, no point in buying him out just to free up room so a young kid or two can come up. They can do that whne we trade L Schenn and whoever else at the deadline and play 20 pro games.

How dare we talk about trading superstar Giroux, how would the team score any goals if he wasn't here? The same people defending him are probably the same homers saying couturier shuts down malkin so he can't be traded either. Schenn Simmonds couturier read have been here multiple years they aren't getting better. Misjudged thier talents or should we keep saying wait another year.

The Flyers dont need the cap space for next season ONLY if they trade away contracts that are on the books next season or somehow find a way to fill their holes under the cap (not looking good)
- YuenglingJagr

In looking at the future there is some speculation involved. Do you think the Flyers should come back with the same team next season and try again, or should they mix in more young players with a sprinkling of Veterans in support roles? I've crunched the numbers. Looked at sample rosters. They don't need to buy out Lecavalier.

It is for 2 seasons oh my god dude. get over the retirement thing. you speak in absolutes with everything until it comes to Vinny
- YuenglingJagr

You're totally incorrect. We're talking about the future which is impossible to do with out speculating.

If Lecavalier does not retire early then I think about a buyout which would be a year less than doing it this off season. Not until.

You then have the space to move contracts around if we are going to be pinned up against the cap as it looks currently. It gives players a chance to move up to the Flyers.

I am not suggesting buyout Vinny for the hell of it. I am saying, he is worth absolutely nothing right now and forces the flyers to play with a 22 man roster for 2 more years. To me, what you gain is worth what you would lose. We need to resign Raffl and Schenn and possibly 1 defenseman...the numbers dont look good without losing a contract for next year

The buyout would happen in the offseason...so talking about this year is pointless. It is also when we need cap space (though we need it now too)

The flyers have 63.5ish cap dollars spent on next seasons team already. That is roughly 9 million in cap space with 10 forwards (not counting Leier) and 5 defensemen (counting amac) with Schenn/Manning/Gudas/Cousins/Straka/Alt RFA. Rafll/White/Gagner/L Schenn/Medvedev as UFA.

I'm not into tanking, losing on purpose, giving a season away, (that's a year off guys careers).
I understand building a base, but Hextall telling everyone he expects to make the playoffs this season is bull$hit.

I don't buy that. You put out an expectation and goal for the team. Why would you publicly state that you have lower expectations and tell your team it's okay if they don't compete?

Because you can't tell season ticket holders "it's not our year"

We played a good game but we didn’t score goals,” forward Wayne Simmonds told CSN Philly. I guess this is a win in their minds. I think I've heard this quote already this year... Over/under on how many times we here this again after games this season?

I don't think it's about that. I think expecting this team to compete for the playoffs was reasonable.

I am literally giving you numbers on the future cap situation and you're asking me that? I asked you what the 916k in dead money will be used for? It is asking about the future...how do you see it playing out? I am not saying to buyout vinny for the hell of it...that isnt up for debate because it is a fact that they wouldnt buy him out unless they needed to. The speculation is that the Flyers WILL need to because it will be tough to fit under the cap next season.

Really????
Coburn for Gudas.
That helps you compete?
I understand his plan, just not a fan of stinking on purpose.
What GM in the league has a team dead last in scoring & is happy about it?
Only a GM who doesn't expect anything for a few more years.

How often does a hockey player or athlete in general said an insightful response in an interview? It is most often a cookie cutter, basic response that you can copy and paste over several teams/sports/players. Wouldn't worry much about it

One speculation could be that he's pissed about what is going on now and decides that he wants every penny of his contract.

Plausible?

All you've given is what the Flyers already have on the books for the season. I've put together multiple sample rosters and looked at what the Flyers can potentially do without buying out Lecavalier. I have them written out at home in preparation of such a conversation. I'll be happy to share it when I get home. The Flyers do not need to buy him out. They may choose to but they don't need to. Fans still can't grasp that the cap is about choices.
